Climate Professor Thinks We Should ‘Cull’ the Human Population to Reach Emissions Targets

Professor Bill McGuire is a well-known vulcanologist and climate scientist who doesn’t care much for humanity. He tweeted out a scathingly brilliant idea if you’re in the mortuary business or work as a grave digger.
.
Ooopsie. McGuire deleted the tweet a few hours later but had no regrets. The trouble is, we just don’t understand how brilliant he is.

Since that’s out of our control, we might as well just get on with mitigation then.
Which makes it even more surprising that so many Green types such as Greta condemn Israel for its supposed genocide, rather than cheering it on.
Obviously everyone is genocidable but some are more genocidable than others to coin a phrase.
Finally, an honest eco-loon.
He thinks everyone else is the problem – a sure sign that he’s the problem.
Gramps still maintains that it IS a Generational thing: all this Climate rubbish talk. Back in his Uni days, one had a much better respect for the Professors. Today’s lot… ? Is it being lost in the translation of professor ? I don’t think they are of a “Worldly” type anymore. OK OK Uni is for OPEN Discussion …but I believe that is all quickly disappearing.
Climate change & Pop’n control … WAR does it all …. but that is OK …. just don’t look, watch or listen to the suffering of fellow mankind.
Climate Professor Thinks We Should ‘Cull’ the Human Population to Reach Emissions Targets
I agree; so let’s do a scientific experiment,
Cull / Kill all the doomster Climate Professors & politicians who devised the Emissions Targets;
If a drop in doomster greens & a reversal of Emissions Targets is not seen, then extend the experiment to all eco loons.
Beat me to it, great idea, the eco loons should volunteer to be euthanised, saving the planet, what is not to like.
Good idea, many of the eco-loons believe they are doomed anyway so let them ‘volunteer’ to do their bit for the planet and beat the rush!
Oh dear. A vulcanologist who has no idea of the physics of how the climate works.
Just another apocalyptic preacher. But somehow I don’t think he loves us.
Within the Climate Death Cult the Malthusian methodology is correct GroupThink and a core belief. Just look at the writings of the founders of Extinction Rebellion, Just Stop Oil, they espouse the requirement to reduce the population to a “manageable” 5% of existing numbers, or to put it simply, 7,600,000,000 must die and die quickly, leaving a lucky 400,000,000 to inherit the Earth, or Gaia as they prefer to call it.
So the UK for instance, England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales would have a new population of 3,400,000, having murdered, buried, cremated 65,000,000 fellow human beings- a population last seen in the 15th century.
This population would be spread out over the rural landscape, cities, towns etc would be of no use as an agrarian society would have to evolve- since the population would need to be fed, how many of the 3.4m would be “workers” and how many “elites”, since having culled the population have you left yourself sufficient knowledgeable “survivors” that have the knowledge, understanding, experience to manage the production of food, clean water, medical services, educate etc.- as you think about it, you realise that if the “survivors” are not carefully selected, you may end up in a situation where the population dies out due to a lack of females of childbearing age, do they intend to introduce a elite class of breeding stock to ensure a replacement birth rate of 2.1.
The whole idea is both repulsive and shows clearly that ultimately the aim is to get back to a feudal system with a “Us and Them “hierarchy that will keep the majority in poverty and a minority in luxury, regressive and destructive.
I think you make a little mistake, micda67, in an otherwise great comment.
You must realise that Chinese CO2 is actually fine stuff. No problems at all there. Actively promoted by the likes of Christina Figueres. It does follow, therefore, that our “losses” and those of the West (not forgetting Oz & NZ) will have to be almost total, leaving only the entitled genii like Prof McGuire and their funders.
What’s the Chinese for “Lebensraum”, I wonder?
Well yes, looks like we are for the chop!
Interesting to note- once we get down to a 400,000,000 and declining population, CO2 production will drop, natural plant food replenishment will be curtailed, so the “survivors” had best hope that the current 450ppm is maintained because it was only recently that it had dropped to 180ppm, anything below 150ppm and its goodbye to the Rest as plant life disappears, but then again, in true Malthusian style, this would be celebrated.
Get hold of Ark B and put all the millions of useless people on it. The ones left behind would easily be able to cope.
“…ensure a replacement birth rate of 2.1“: In an agrarian population, you would need a lot more than 2.1 to keep your population level because of all the death from malnutrition, disease, accidents, etc.
who cares?, insufficient medical support, insufficient access to anything, death in any form after a few years of backbreaking servitude and subsistence farming would be welcome……………..the END.
I see that you understand what I’m saying.
If I were a vulcanologist rather than coming up with daft ideas like this I’d come up with a scheme to stop CO2 emissions from volcanoes and vents. One that required decades of research involving lots of money.
agreed. This important subject needs more study! Where and how do i apply for the grants?
Absolutely – one of the biggest “culprits” or would be if the problem existed!
Big corks. JF
Think of what happens when you release a champagne cork !
So corks… probably not a good idea 🙂
How about culling the Emission Targets professor, to ensure a balanced future human population?
Or does that idea not resonate with the scripts you’re given to parrot?
Reduce the population?
Yet these same brain-dead academics want open borders, and another 100 million people to flood into Britain.
Academics really are the most clueless people in the world. It is about time all humanities departments were closed down – they really are the enemy of the people.
R
Note: Climate is not a real science, so it must be humanities…

This chap is a geologist.
There might be a few red faces around if half of humans were culled and it made no difference to climate change.
Like the Xhosa cattle killings they would probably blame the unbelievers amongst the survivors and insist on more killing.
probably blame the unbelievers
The believers can also blame those believers who did not believe hard enough.
Indeed, that’s what happened to the unfortunate Xhosa.
I’m afraid humans are nowhere near as rational as we like to believe.
And it wouldn’t – even if AGW was a proven thing, instead of an unproven consensus hypothesis and CO2 was driving global boiling (it isn’t as its saturated above 300ppm according to a new study by 3 Polish Physicists), the climate will continue to dynamically change, as it has since the earth formed, global temps and CO2 levels would continue to go up and down, as they have always done in a decoupled manner, however, the 4Bn peopl
Not the first to come to that conclusion, Either.
I guy called Leckner did some laboratory experiments and found that absorption levelled off at around 280ppm
The IPCC logarithmic effect is not actually correct.
Second line should say… A guy call Leckner…..
Sorry, but self-styled “climate scientists” are utterly incapable of feeling shame or embarrassment.
Honestly brutal.
Looks like Bill’s in the bunker
Never interacted, didn’t know he existed….
Not being able to see the idiot’s posts is something to celebrate.
Since Musk stopped all the bans, more and more of these lunatics and fanatics have taken to banning people they disagree with or preventing people replying to their Tweets. They really cannot stand to be questioned.
If mass culling is the preferred solution by McGuire then he might be described as yet another mentally ill believer.
Communism and fascism probably jointly hold the record for the combined number of people killed by believers in the name of a belief, with a death toll of well into the millions, which is a long way short of the proposed death toll indicated by McGuire.
10s of millions; Stalin 20-40 million, Mao 60 million. I’m currently reading Orlando Figes ‘The Whisperers’ to see how anybody survived that horror and for possible clues to our future.
It seems to me that the word ‘Professor’ is now awarded to the silliest people in academia. McGuire typifies many stupid and ignorant people I have met in my long life, carrying the title, who are ill -fitted to be recognised as part of the academic world. People like McGuire, given licence to spew such horrific views, should be stripped of their ill earned qualification.
Reminds me of the George Orwell quotation “Some ideas are so stupid that only intellectuals believe them”
and governments
The term “Professor” in the UK normally applies only to people at the top of their game, who often run their University Department. The social ‘sciences’ can produce theoretical types, but the sciences generally produce pragmatists.
In the US “Professor” refers to any university teacher, so there will be many who really know very little about anything, possibly having been a student the previous year.
“In the US “Professor” refers to any university teacher,”
This is only a view by some non-college folks. The actual hierarchy goes from teaching assistants (students themselves), Adjuncts (usually part-time temporary), Instructors, Assistant Professors, Associate Prof, and Professors.
Those in any university system in the USA will be aware of the distinctions.
The Press and average Joe or Jane, not so much.
One of my favourite actors was Walter Matthau. In the film, Fail Safe, he plays the part of political ‘thinker’ and, at a drinks party he’s asked about what would happen to the population of the US if it was to come out of an all-out nuclear attack. Well, he said, there would be two types of survivors: those who were living in well-protected (from radiation and atomic blast) buildings, like prisons, and those protected by working in underground repositories of books and papers. There, he said, you will find future civilisation: thugs, murderers and general convicts pitted against learned readers and book-worms and clerks.
Douglas Adams was almost right with his “Golgafrinchams”. The Golgafrinchams divided their population into three groups. The intellectuals and thinkers, the workers and the middlemen. They tricked that last group into being sent away from their planet on a giant ark spaceship to be saved on the grounds that it was going to be destroyed. Personally I think they sent the wrong group away.
Douglas Adams
Adams was a Technology Prophet. The paranoid “Marvin the Android” will be a reality.
Just finished reading A Canticle for Leibowitz, a book I first read as a teenager. It’s quite brilliant – post-nuclear war and after.
He deleted the tweet because people were taking culling humanity the wrong way.
Wut? What is the right way ?!?!
Frankly, I think he is a misanthrope, hence, wants to cull humanity. ‘Climate breakdown’ is just rhetoric to get the masses to accept their own demise. The masses are supposed to care more about ‘the planet’ than their own heinies.
The Malthusian argument, as originally formulated by the Rev. Malthus in the 19th C was rational, in light of the available technologies at that epoch. However, Malthus proposed that as the poor would out-breed the rich, resources would be rapidly overcome and a general deterioration of society would result. This argument became the basis for Galton’s foundation of Eugenics, a belief as un-scientific as blaming the Industrial revolution for climate change.
The following century saw scientific progress in medicine and agriculture produce both sufficient food and, a rapidly expanding population. However, the baseline technologies, remained at those of the 19th century – all the technologies we have today, either existed or were in primary development by 1913. We have nuclear power, but we use it to boil water, to produce steam to drive Charles Parsons turbines, to drive professor Faraday’s electrical machines. The Romans had a better grasp of the limitations of windmills than we have. And the sun stubbornly refuses to shine on any part of the planet for all 24 hours.
Having failed to produce the necessary technical change, we return to the tired arguments of Malthus, which were a social disaster when they led to the false arguments of Eugenics. Galton’s belief that the intellectual elites should be the only part of the population allowed unfettered breeding has proven a disaster. Now, more of the population attend university than ever before and we await in vain the improvement in understanding necessary to generate solutions. The problem is not the population of elites, but what they are taught.
The cozy algorithmic expression of science, using mathematics little better than ‘software’ has led to our inability to generate both new science and practical solutions. We desperately need new tools and there is little sign of these tools being actively investigated. There has never been a long-term successful algorithmic prediction of the future, because the algorithmic basis of ‘closure’ prevents us generating the flexibility necessary to make good long term solutions possible – the tyranny of the ‘equals’ sign.
Transistors.
Semiconductor effects were demonstrated before 1913, as was the ability of two terminal devices to generate oscillation. However, hot electron technologies dominated for the next 40 years and it was not until the 1950s that three element devices were seriously investigated. The level of material purity required to give reliable methods of doping to give working devices was a serious barrier to the technology for a long time. The theory necessary to design reliable devices was established in the 1920s to 30s, by Schottky, Mott and others.
Genetics. Antibiotics. Spaceflight. Superconductors. Collidors. Robotics.
The foundation of genetics was made by Mendel in the 19th century. Early work on the use of coal tar dyes as antibiotics was made in the 1920s. Vaccine therapy was a 19th century development, the first experiments on mass vaccination were carried out by Almroth Wright during the Boer war for Typhoid. Spaceflight using rockets was proposed before the first world war. Robotics is derived from the Czech word for ‘work’ in a story from the 1930s.
The problem is, our baseline technologies have not changed and all these developments depend on the provision of continuous electrical power. You could not run a semiconductor plant on so called ‘renewables’ – a break in the supply produces expensive scrap! The same applies to the production of medical products – all these processes require continuous power to produce a worthwhile product. This was well understood by Matthew Boulton in the 18th century. It seems beyond the comprehension of the modern arts graduate! Continuous power has allowed the advances we have made since the 18th century and the movement away from steam to electrical power at the end of the 19th century spring-boarded a further improvement in productivity.
A world without continuous electrical power, is a poor world, that cannot feed the total population, provide medical support for the same, provide technical education, clean water, sewerage disposal; or sufficient clothing and heating to support the population in winter in the northern hemisphere. The intermittency in supply inherent in ‘renewables’ is not solvable without a method of storage whose efficiency greatly exceeds any available today and can be applied at reasonable cost at scale. Nuclear fusion remains a dream and it is proposed to use it to produce steam to drive Charles Parsons turbines, etc….
In order to produce real progress, physics must abandon the 300 years of the delusion of reducing problems to ‘statics’ and go back to the dynamics of Newton!
It’s dogma, Phoenix. Let it go.
Having failed to produce the necessary technical change
My view is that the restrictions created by the UK education system have always actively prevented the emergence of true genius. My guess is that this applies to all education systems worldwide.
The prof. is prolific but seems to be lacking an irony gene. Here are a couple of his works. Waking the Giant: How a Changing Climate Triggers Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Volcanoes. His first novel, Skyseed – an eco-thriller about climate engineering gone wrong – was published in 2020.
The Prof is right, let’s begin with all the eco loons, sacrificed on their own altar of doom
There is precedent for that in the Guyana People’s Church.
Well, there are a great many useless breathers, McGuire being one that are entirely expendable, indeed provide a net benefit to the world by not existing. Or less dramatically, he could just stop talking obvious nonsense about a non-existent problem.
While he is looking to cull population, there are many other news stories about declining birth rates such as this one at WSJ, https://www.wsj.com/world/birthrates-global-decline-cause-ddaf8be2?st=3e0ks74ix5pcpry&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink
It’s funny how prosperity often leads to declining birth rates in both the West and in Asia. With increases in productivity, health and changes to the social safety net for the aged, the declining birth rates should be manageable with little coercion.
Best start with the idiot professor.
Forcing women to reproduce at gunpoint is another approach. Past overpopulation experiments have reliably led to “culling” of one sort or another.
Oh joy!! McGuire would love this. R4 news this evening announced that scientivists have declared 2023 the warmest year in the northern hemisphere for two thousand years!! By….drum roll…4 deg C!! And how do they know this, I hear you ask? TREE RINGS!!! The ghost of Michael Mann still haunts us!
What is the one thing that trees have been in deficit of until recently…
CO2 of course. !
McGuire’s position as a lecturer must surely become untenable.
” Professor, that was an interesting lecture, thank you. Do you still believe that billions of people should die ? “
So we’re back to the beginning – the Green movement began in population control… And yes, Hugo Fearst, the man who calls for everyone else to be culled, springs to mind, his message as always, ‘too many [other] people’…

Drax claims the controversial fuel can help cut greenhouse gas emissions from sea freight

Surely not and it can’t be the first can it?
Grow the trees first, then burn them. Else, you will always be a net emitter.
trees can be grown to replace those cut down
Well, yeah, they could. Is Drax going to send reps out to check on replanted forests periodically, to make sure they replace those cut down? Ha ha ha ha. Plant ’em then abandon them, and claim you replaced the trees you cut down.
‘Sustainable’ is a bullshi+ term. It should always make you skeptical of the people who utter it.
No, plenty of examples of steam ships running out of coal and burning all the furniture and fittings. Also plenty of examples of the coal catching fire and the crew eventually taking to the boats to watch the ship burning to the waterline. Conrad’s ‘Youth’ is based on his own experiences aboard ‘Palestine’ (‘Judea’ in ‘Youth’). Marlow relates the tale as also ‘Heart of Darkness’ of course showing that not much has changed in the last century plus.
In days of yore, the ‘vulcanologists’ of the day recommended sacrificing virgins into volcanoes when the weather was ‘badly behaved’.
Their advice did not stop climate from changing in those days and will not work today either (with, or without virginity)
Lets invite all the doom and gloom merchants to Davos for a mass sacrifice to prove this is not a solution 😉

Surely, there is a ‘Hate Crime’ in such a ridiculous comment!
Let’s start with him, his family and all other who believe this crap. The rest of us can enjoy life without them.
“We Should ‘Cull’ Climate Professors to Reach Emissions Targets”
Fixed
Thinking a little more about this , it’s something to do with social media. In the past he’d have been musing amongst his friends and being laughed at. Now we have this thin permeable wall between him and the wide world. Grandiose self importance and bewildering stupidity produced this effect.
