Apparently, a couple of hot days last week in Sydney proved that the planet is burning up.

The usual suspects will have to turn their attention elsewhere, because Sydney and the rest of Oz is back to normal.

As things currently stand, the first two weeks of January 2013 now hold the records for the hottest Australian day on record, the hottest two-day period on record, the hottest three-day period, the hottest four-day period and, well, every sequential-days record stretching from one to 14 days for daily mean temperatures.

How much are these figures based on urban sites, Ken?

The Australian Climate Observations Reference Network consists of 112 locations of which 8 are urban.

Yet none of the states have had record months individually, and, it seems, there are hardly any long running non urban stations that have set record highs.
