Only 45% of Scottish people believe climate change is an ‘immediate and urgent’ issue

Adults with a degree or professional qualification were more than twice as likely to view the issue as an immediate problem compared with those with none.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/only-45-of-scottish-people-believe-climate-change-is-an-immediate-and-urgent-issue-10473361.html

The saddest thing is that, supposedly, the most intelligent people are more likely to fall for the claptrap.

Anyone with an ounce of commonsense would realise that Scotland would be much worse off with the colder climate prevalent in the 19thC.

When I talk about reversing Climate Change I have Thee Minoan Warm Period in mind.

Can we change that picture to one Minoans, two high spots and an empty beech with some drinks.

Thats interesting. In the US it’s the people with college degrees who are sceptics. In my experience it’s the practical people, like engineers, who are not convinced and the airy fairy IT and arts people who believe in it!

“Only 45% of Scottish people believe climate change” … I’ve always had suspicions about my left hand – I knew it was a secret climate extremist!

      Your assumption is incorrect.

      Scottish views on climate change
45% – immediate and urgent problem
26% – more of a problem for the future
      8 % – not really a problem
      11% – not happening

71% believe it is a problem versus only 19% that do not.

Unfortunately, the sources of information available / understandable to most people tell them that the science is proven and Armaggedon is nigh. There is little free debate allowed by the powerful media (only the Telelaff and Mail-orders seem to ever offer doubts). I have tried very hard to get material published but have been told that that is against policy.

Goebbels used a similar procedure in the 1930s.

let me guess, the scottish government interviewed people in edinburgh and other large scottish cities where the vast majority of the non critical thinking gullible live up here . speak to people in rural areas, and those numbers will be very different.
the only farmers you will find that believe in man made global warming (please do not use the term climate change, everyone on the planet knows the climate changes. climate change has a very different meaning to the man made global warming bullshit) are those with an angle to play for extra subsidies, the rest will laugh at you.

**The saddest thing is that, supposedly, the most intelligent people are more likely to fall for the claptrap.**

Only if you equate a degree or professional qualification with intelligence.

I used to work for an organisation trying to prevent people being ripped off by Nigerian 419 scammers, and we were constantly having to rescue doctors, lawyers, bankers and other supposedly “intelligent” people.

Intelligence doesn’t equal common sense, and even gets in its way when the “intelligent” people over-rate their own intelligence. (see Frampton, Paul).

intelligence is often confused with the capacity to remember lots of information, where most academics excel . unfortunately they and other members of the so called high intelligence groups quite often fail miserably on how they use that information they can so readily recollect.

I used to have a poster on my wall about how easy it is to fool scientist — a quote from a magician. They run in tramlines…
        P.S. I am an academic…

Since the education system was dumbed-down and universities were expanded to take people of low intelligence, most people with degrees are in non-subjects such as meejah studies and so you might expect a large number of gullible but qualified people to accept the climate change scam.

    ” airy-fairy IT…people ”

    wtf?

Why on earth would you think that about IT people? Mostly hard-headed pragmatists imho, who are unlikely to fall for warmist nonsense.

I wonder if they are the same 45% as support the SNP, whose famous $100 /bbl plus oil price forecast as a basis for separation would have left Scotland bankrupt were it not for the other 55%?.

Does you comment also apply to the American Association for the Advancement of Science which not only participated in the study but publicized the results?

Most scientists agree that humans affect climate, even if only UHI.

The AAS study has no relevance as to how much of recent warming is man made, how much will be caused in future, nor what the effects will be.

My comment was in response to comments by “a bit chilly” and “sensferguson” which addressed the Pew study and scientist consensus. With regard to the cause of global warming, there is no credible published research by skeptics that offer an alternative explanation. However, over 200 international science organizations agree with the IPCC conclusion.

Detailed analyses have shown that the warming during this period is mainly a result of the increased concentrations of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

“The pace of change and the evidence of harm have increased markedly over the last five years.”

This statement was released in 2006 and is…

        MANIFESTLY and BLATANTLY UNTRUE !!!

Come on Edward.. I’m waiting for you to show that there was a change in anything between 2001 and 2006.

Otherwise you obviously concur with my statement.

But you know that this period was part of the temperature plateau, don’t you, so their statement was, as I said…

        MANIFESTLY and BLATANTLY UNTRUE !!!

The AAAS is so left wing corrupt, to answer your question-YES, ABSOLUTELY YES!!

When AAAs releases a statement that says..

“The scientific evidence is clear: global climate change caused by human activities is occurring now, and it is a growing threat to society….The pace of change and the evidence of harm have increased markedly over the last five years. ”

You know that they have taken a huge draught of the climate kool aid.

The evidence is not at all clear

It is not a threat to society… cooling is

Any slight warming basically stopped in 2001.

And there is zero evidence of any link to the reduced harm from natural events

So they are basically LYING THROUGH THEIR TEETH. !!

If you do not consider the AAAS to be a credible source, how about one of the following:
National Academies of the US and 12 other countries: http://www.nationalacademies.org/includes/G8+5energy-climate09.pdf ?
        The American Meteorological Society?
        The American Geophysical Union?
Do you believe that any international science organization is credible?

      • August 28, 2015 10:03 am

All of these type of organisations are run by cliques, which rarely reflect the views of members, as we have seen with the APS.

Their statements therefore are pretty worthless.

Please show us a vote by all the members of the society that they endorse this statement.

Sorry, but you won’t be able to. The statement is concocted by those few political lackeys that have managed to get to positions on the committee.

The real scientists are too busy working.

    • August 27, 2015 9:33 pm

Full of weasel words, uncertainty and impossibly distant predictions, this is a typical pre-Paris propaganda projectile from Gavin Schmidt’s pseudoscientific cesspool.

    • August 28, 2015 10:11 am

Fascinating real-life experience view of the climate as is.

If the number of patches had halved (instead of doubling) you would have been on the BBC / Gruniad etc. Possibly you need a headline like “Snow on Ben Nevis only doubled over last year, Global warming to blame”. A trip to Paris in December, and more snow maybe, would then be arranged.

“Intelligence” = information in most usage. Having a degree means you’re well informed about a subject, and the ‘I’ in MI5, MI6 and CIA actually refers to information gathering – they folks see intelligence as same as information.
Since vast majority of people are unable to analyse all the information – too busy, not got number-crunching skills, etc – the opinion polls measure the messaging, that’s all.
