BBC And The Extinction Rebellion

December 22, 2018

From the Guardian:

The BBC’s central London headquarters has been put on lockdown due to a protest by climate change campaigners who are demanding it uses its status as national broadcaster to declare a “climate and ecological emergency”.

Extinction Rebellion, a direct action group that has recently shut down key London roads, has demand the BBC makes the environment its “top editorial issue”.

Broadcasting House was locked down early on Friday afternoon, with BBC staff and guests unable to enter or leave the building while security kept the peaceful but noisy protesters away from the entrance.

Extinction Rebellion activists, who are demanding a meeting with the BBC director general, Tony Hall, said the corporation had a duty to broadcast about climate change with “the level of urgency placed on informing the public about the second world war”.

A case of the biter bit!

The BBC have given unwarranted prominence to Extinction Rebellion in recent weeks. News reports have regularly given the impression that the group are a large, serious organisation who we should be paying attention to, rather than the tiny ragbag of eco nutters which they really are.

Prominent reports about various blockades have regularly given the impression that the number of protestors was much greater than in reality, helped by carefully focussed photographs.

There have even been two items devoted to the background of Extinction Rebellion. One is a BBC News video, entitled “Extinction Rebellion: The story behind the activist group”.

The second is a 13-minute “Profile” of Gail Bradbrook, one of the group’s leaders, on Radio 4.

It is deeply ironic then that the activists have turned their ire towards the BBC, who they rather ridiculously accuse of not paying enough attention to climate change.

It is worth noting just what Extinction Rebellion are really about, according to their own website:

The Rising Up network’s website gives more detail of what this fundamental chande encompasses:

Our shared vision (draft) is of:

An inclusive world, where individuals are supported to express their unique gift and where we work together to support our community, to create beautiful things and to tackle the major problems of our age. Our lives will have the meaning we long for; we will uphold the best in our humanity for the greater purpose.

This implies:

  • A functioning democracy, where people have real agency in decision making. Devolution of power to the lowest level, with structures to facilitate decision making locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, where appropriate.
  • An economy designed to maximise well-being for all people and minimise harm to each other, our fellow creatures and our home planet. Policies and law focused on greater equality, localising production, reducing consumption, zero carbon and zero waste, are urgently needed.

And this needs:

  • A revolution, meaning a rapid change in wealth distribution and power structures, preventing rich elite from perpetuating a self-serving ideology. Our democracy, our media, our academia, our think tanks and businesses (organisations whose purpose should be to meet our needs) must serve all people and a healthy ecology.

https://risingup.org.uk/about

I don’t recall the BBC ever mentioning that this is the real agenda.

Extinction Rebellion are in reality little more than Wolfie Smith’s Tooting Popular Front, and should be treated with the disdain they deserve by the BBC.

“Zero carbon and zero waste”. I can imagine they are very diligent in practicing what they preach? NOT.

The I want it now brigade but I don’t want to work for it. Staging annoying protests is so much easier than trying to get yourself elected to parliament and change things the democratic way.

Has anyone thought of taking out an injunction against Gail Bradbrook for inciting these idiots to take action. Maybe better to actually prosecute her for criminal offences. As they appear to want to be imprisoned, heavy fines may deter them.

Wow Paul, you’ve found a lot, but there are some things you didn’t list.
eg How ER & Grantham were allowed to preach for 20 mins on The R2 Jeremy Vine show yesterday.
Vine initially calling them like suffragettes, then an MP tweeted complaints and Vine backtracked a bit
I collated what I got here on BH BBC working together with Eco-activist lawbreakers

Paul ,since the BBC is not very good at IT their own search tool is rubbish, you might find more BBC material by Googling : site:bbc.co.uk and then settings the Tools/time to “past month” etc.
But programme synopses are hidden Google so you have to make another similar search on Twitter.

I wonder if the two nutters from Crawley have anything to do with this lot? If they have you won’t be hearing it on the BBC.

The BBC need to be treated with disdain as well.

This is an offensive hate group whose emblem looks like a variation of a Nazi swastika. Since the English Defence League have been outlawed for causing less disruption or offense than this eco-fascist group, when will the Govt outlaw these terrorists? Ah, but our grandees embrace leftwing fascists, its only Nationalists that get banned or imprisoned. They imprisoned a nutty couple for five and six years for having Nazi symbols in the privacy of their own home! But these eco-fascists disrupt the streets and get govt sponsored BBC publicity. Time for yellow vests and pikes on London Bridge.

They’ve got it all wrong! Surely they ought to take off all their clothes, have a love-in and eventually start procreating. That would solve the problem wouldn’t it . Seems obvious to me. Perhaps someone should tell them?

It’s worth listening to this BBC Radio4 profile of Dr Gail Bradbrook, who apparently is a key figure in ER. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0001lvz?fbclid=IwAR0HqwkcE7pxcnN2K4FQHxd8NoCQ56AJ1y2dBVIMGBEsBuQ7AQ1FGIfNKao The profile has a hint of cynicism that you used to expect from experienced journalists.

Iapogus: Thanks for that link. It is a supreme example of what happens when intelligence and common sense diverge. It can be very dangerous. Sadly Gail Bradbrook’s purported compassion does not extend to the victims of the consequences of her actions in the long term. She seems totally unable to make the connection and is living in a wish list world.
Meanwhile the rest of us have to cope with reality.
It is frightening that the BBC has given her this air time in such a benign manner and without challenge. To me all she is doing is peddling anarchy.

      • December 22, 2018 10:32 pm

If she did think, she’d realise that with every eco-protest takes cops off the street who could be dealing with real crime
.. saving London from knife crime etc.

So it isn’t about the extinction of the BBC?

Or perhaps on second thoughts, it is after all: the more the BBC pursues its eco-loon agenda the smaller its audience becomes.

More important than the audiences is that people stop paying the TV tax. Hit them where it hurts.

“Extinction Rebellion, a direct action group that has recently shut down key London roads, has demand the BBC makes the environment its “top editorial issue”.”

I thought the BBC was already maxed out in that regard?

Here’s something about the cost of allowing these brain dead screwballs to throw their tantrums.

BBC maxed out already? Makes no difference, because once one is hooked on a propaganda campaign, be it religious, ideological or political, there can never be enough support. The basic insecurity of an authoritarian regime will always demand more confirmation, stronger expressions of conformity.

I agree Henning. They are never satisfied. I would only add that, as with all leftist behavior, it’s a wholly destructive phenomenon. As Evan Sayet says about the “modern liberal” (listen from where it starts at 2:43 to 2:52).

It would be bad enough if they only caused themselves to fail. But that isn’t enough for them. They have to share their failure and misery with everyone else. And not only share, but impose.

So, as I see it, you are 100% correct.

OK, that link didn’t work. It should have started where I selected, but it seems to have reset to the beginning. I’ll try again see here, and if that doesn’t work, the time range to watch/listen to is, again, 2:43 to 2:52.

    FOR THE GREATER GOOD

“we will uphold the best in our humanity for the greater purpose.”

“fundamental change of our political and economic system to one which maximises well being and minimises harm”

Tried many times before (currently Venezuela) always with the same outcome. In 70 years of interaction with humanity I have observed that everybody agrees with these aspirations and pursue them with great vigour and determination their whole lives. To succeed ER must STOP this activity and replace it with state organised processes of greater output efficiency. They are entrapped in the Egalitarian Heresy, that all humans are equal and not individually uniquely different. This leads to the Egalitarian Paradox, that to achieve equality you must treat people differently, the basic act of discrimination – another paradox.
That only way is to write off the current people and replace them. This is through the next generation, a process already occurring.

No need to make horror films anymore. Look what is being done to our children

It will fail because of the ultimate perversity of humanity embedded in their ouw title.
The next generation will always rebel against the last

    This is a classic psyop

The BBC want to push the Ecogeddon meme, not only to bolster their pension fund investments in renewables, but to program dumb white liberals into hastening our their/own suicide culturally.

20 of their mates don yellow vests, make a noise, and now The Bolshevics have to report on their own message!

    Sorcery.

Similar in style to how in the US, the FBI fed stories to the press, who then reported on it, the FBI then went to search warrant Judges and cited the news reports as reason to obtain warrants to spy on various actors in the political arena…..

    I repeat …Sorcery.
