Jim Skea’s replacement at the CCC has been announced.

Just like all of the others, Keith Bell will be toeing the party line:

“The science is clear: man-made climate change represents a significant threat to the environment, lifestyles and economies of the world.”

Professor Keith Bell has been appointed to the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) by the Minister for Energy and Clean Growth, Claire Perry MP, and the devolved administrations.

Professor Bell is a professor of electronic and electrical engineering at the University of Strathclyde. He takes up the position of power sector specialist on the Committee for a 5 year term.

Keith Bell is a co-director of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) and a Chartered Engineer. In addition to teaching and being involved with energy system research in collaboration with various academic and industrial partners, he has a number of additional roles including with the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, The IET Power Academy, the Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Electriques (CIGRE), the European Energy Research Alliance and as ScottishPower chair in Smart Grids at the University of Strathclyde. In recent years, he has given advice on electricity system issues to the Scottish government, Ofgem, BEIS and the government of Ireland, amongst others.

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Bell said:

The science is clear: man-made climate change represents a significant threat to the environment, lifestyles and economies of the world. As one of the world’s leading economies, the UK has a responsibility to play its part in tackling this challenge. Real progress is being made around the world in decarbonising electricity; that journey is not yet complete with some serious issues to tackle, but an even greater challenge in the energy sector now is decarbonising transport and heat.

It’s a privilege to become a member of the CCC but also a big responsibility in light of the importance of the issues that it is addressing. I look forward to working with the other members of the Committee and bringing my experience in energy systems, specifically electricity systems, and my knowledge of the energy landscape in Scotland to help advise the UK government and devolved administrations on how best to meet our commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

Keith Bell replaces Professor Jim Skea who stepped down in December 2018 after more than a decade of service.

Commenting on Keith Bell’s appointment and Professor Skea’s contribution, CCC Chairman Lord Deben, said:

I am thrilled to welcome Professor Keith Bell to the Committee on Climate Change. Keith brings extensive experience from his work within the power sector and his expertise will be vital as we look to the solutions for decarbonising transport and heat.

I’d also like to express my sincere thanks to Professor Jim Skea. As a founding CCC member, Jim has been instrumental in the Committee’s work and subsequent success over the last 10 years. The Committee has truly benefitted from Jim’s insight and knowledge, which in turn has helped to ensure our recommendations to government and Parliament have been firmly rooted in the science.

Well, if he didn’t say that he wouldn’t get the job.

Quite, especially if he has been able to fix a nice backhander like his committee chairman Lord Deben

If they took the trouble to look at the science, they’d have a more honest idea of whether or not it is clear.

“The science is clear: man-made climate change represents a significant threat to the environment, lifestyles and economies of the world.”

And here we are at over 400 ppm of CO2, and trying to stop all carbon emissions and rapidly decarbonise everything. But with no way to get the atmosphere’s CO2 down to the “safe” value of 350 ppm and a return to the climate and weather of 1987. What’s your plan Keith? Renewables don’t lower CO2. Plant millions of trees and solar panel “farms”? How long will it take your Committee to stop this threat? Be honest. How will you do it? How will anyone do it?

He doesn’t do science, just oversees orthers, as long as they toe the line. Mind you it is a filthy lie, there seems to be or no science involved!

An embarrassment to the field of engineering. No surprise that he is part of the IET as they are econutters – I resigned.

The Science is clear…there is no scientific proof that CO2 causes Climate Change. There is not even a scintilla of correlation to support the thesis. But, spouting it leads some to financial nirvana.

Everybody knows (I hope hehe) that greenhouses have CO2 pumped into them to speed up and increase growth, The C.C.C. does not seem to be able to make the bleeding obvious step to what happens if you reduce the CO2.

    “the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult”

Now, where have I heard of them before? Why Baroness Brown of course:

I wonder if the CCC is aware of what is occurring outside the UK, i.e. China and India. Also, what the CCC’s actions are doing to UK competitiveness. Or are they purely zealots on a mission?

Or just riders on the climate gravy train?

The clarity of the science is not the main issue, which is that the CCC and its fellow travelers are contributing to a mass extinction event … of tried and tested industries and technologies, that have evolved to success stories by market forces. BBC R4 “Costing the Earth” was reveling in the demise of gas boilers in new build homes, so the domestic gas industry is being sacrificed to appease the Gods, along with coal-mining, diesel cars and probably soon the meat and dairy industries.

The BBC just acts as the broadcast propaganda wing, and most of the rest of the MSM follows in fawning deference, hanging on every word of a bunch of useless academics.

I’m just wondering whether to stockpile gas boilers in my shed for the time when my present one gives up the ghost. I do not want the expense of installing electric heating.

The problem is whether there will still be any mains gas to power them! Make sure that any you do buy can be converted to LPG, and get the necessary modification kits to go with them.

I complained to my MP (Greg Hands) about the Chancellor making his ridiculous announcement about new houses not having gas boilers on the advice of Lord Deben who has a clear conflict of interest in the matter. He wrote back to say he has asked the Energy Secretary Claire Perry why this has happened and he will let me know what she says in reply.
She is a fully paid up member of the alarmist tendency though so I guess it is pointless but I just wanted to do something.

“Professor Bell is a professor of electronic and electrical engineering “

So you would like to think he’s aware of the warnings from National Grid covered in Paul’s previous post. But I think we all know such “Inconvenient Information” will be quickly pushed to one side….

In 2008 the ‘New Energy Strategy- Zero Carbon Britain 2030 (second report)’ was published.
Among the acknowledgements they ‘would like to extend (their) sincere thanks to our funders and partner organisations for their support. ‘

Apart from various bastions of eco- nuttery these include the MET Office, the University of East Anglia and the University of Strathclyde. (And several others).

So we have clear evidence that the University of Strathclyde has been in the business of conspiring to defraud the British tax payers and energy users for over a decade.

    Does that ring a Bell?

      “zero carbon”

You can immediately tell, the blokes and blokesses who thought up that slogan haven’t the foggiest clue about science, arty farty’s only get jobs in advertizing.

I don’t know where democracy fits in here; but the CCC is hell bent on imposing on the population of the U.K. policies it has not asked for and will not want, once the implications become apparent.
The CCC is not independent, it is in-dependence.

“The science is clear” Oh really! Perhaps the professor would like to explain why 150 universities, with generous funding, using clear science and the best data available (according to the BBC) for two decades, have miserably failed to model the climate.

Professors of modern art should know that turbulent fluid flow is unsettled science. For engineers it should be ingrained at birth.
