The Excommunication of Susan Crockford

Donna Laframboise brings shameful news from the University of Victoria:

image

Like geologist Bob Carter before her, Susan Crockford has been stripped of her Adjunct Professor status by a university with which she has a long history. Why? Because she promotes facts and eschews climate activism.

In May, Canada’s University of Victoria (UVic) advised Crockford that an internal committee had voted to end her 15-year stint as an Adjunct Professor. Having undergone hip surgery in the interim, only now is she going public.

When the matter was last considered, the committee voted unanimously in her favour. What changed? Talks she was invited to give to schools apparently “generated concern among parents regarding balance.” That concern was “shared with various levels of the university,” according to an April 2017 e-mail from Ann Stahl, then chair of the Anthropology Department.

These vague accusations, leveled by an unknown number of unknown individuals who may or may not have been garden variety climate activists, were first used to expel Crockford from the UVic Speakers Bureau. They then became the impetus to expel her from the UVic academic community altogether.

I’ve written about this scandalous development in today’s Financial Post, the business section of Canada’s daily newspaper, the National Post: click here.

On the subject of balanced presentations, please see my recent commentary, U of Victoria’s Speakers Bureau. Many of the talks it promotes are one-sided, activist, and controversial. Someone with no science background has, for years, been giving lectures about ocean chemistry. Yet the eminently qualified Crockford was purged.

While UVic has deprived its students of her expertise, this weekend Crockford begins a European speaking tour. Audiences in Oslo, London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Munich will have the opportunity to hear her firsthand.

Full Story

Increasingly we discover that this has nothing at all to do with “science”. It is no more than a religion, and one that won’t tolerate dissent.

Shame on the University of Victoria.

She should sue their socks off, as soon as AGW is dead and buried, after Conolly and Conolly is published.

Definitely a religion now. Religion is only a control system and this is how it works. Forecasting doom because of your actions, offering a few slanted facts as proof, offer salvation if you change you ways and do what the leaders of said religion say then lastly ban all others as heretics, ban true believers from listening to their lies and persecute the blasphemers. Works every time until it doesn’t but it can take centuries for people to realise the scam. Let’s hope the internet can speed things up.

Excellent summary Michael. And, Susan Crockford is one of the bravest ‘heretics’ out there. Unfortunately, in this topsy turvey world, it is the heretics who seem to be talking science, facts and evidence and the mainstream scientists who are doing mumbo jumbo, ouija ‘she’s a witch burn her’ sciencey smokescreens and appeals to corrupt authority. The Age of Enlightenment seems to have finally crashed and burned.

They believe it’s about destroying capitalism and inserting Communism/Socialism.

They’re blind to the fact that they’re being played by global corporatism.

Where or what is the University of Victoria? It must be rather an insignificant institution. Who is the Chancellor and how much is he paid? I don’t think Prof Crockford need worry too much. She’s the light to follow, not the U of Vic . (btw is it near Victoria station in London? I only ask)

According to one source of world rankings
      https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2020/world-ranking#!/page/0/length/25/locations/CA/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats
Univ of Victoria (Canada) is in the range 401-450 , a drop of 100 from the previous year’s rankings. To compare:, U of Toronto is no 18, McGill (Montreal)is no 42..
At present Dr Crockford is without university affilation, despite numerous publications and a PhD granted in the traditional method by presenting novel results after years of study .
Again to compare and contrast: Dr (university of Mons- not listed in rankings )Greta Thunberg with no science qualifications or any scientific publications of any sort is on a triumphal tour of the States, complete with awards from virtually every institution you never heard of, but fawned over by every politician you have heard of (except the “appalling” President Trump).
      A strange new world.

The University of Victoria has blatantly ignored the principles of natural justice and common law. If Professor Crockford wanted to she could successfully sue the University. International climate activists need to be stopped in their tracks because they are poisoning the minds of the young and the stupid (in which category I place many politicians, big business, huge swathes of the academic community at every level of learning and those driving the Main Stream Media). Even Greta Thunberg needs to be enlightened to stop her making more of a fool of herself; when she realises the harm she is causing it will seriously damage her equilibrium.

Global warming hypocrisy has shown up the academic community again: not long since the similarly disgraceful Peter Ridd case. The much vaunted “peer review” system long ago became a “pals and colleagues only” system and the green blob has rapidly got control of most academic outlets.

Looking at history, a similar propaganda machine was developed by one Dr. Goebbels less that a century ago! By the time that the fake science is proven it will be too late for society to recover from the damage without massive revolt against the foolish establishment.

Appalling, quite appalling Susan Crockford is being sacrificed on an ‘academic’ pyre built on faggots of nescience, ‘burnt’ for telling plain truths.

Do these ecopuritans and archpriests of the great great scam not understand the idea of a ‘university’?

Moreover, even if – she hasn’t but even if – the lady had contrarian ideas, a university is all about or should be, concerned with the furtherance in extension of knowledge, not shutting down debate.

We are being marched backwards by a bunch of empty heads full of their own bombast and lathered in the hogwash of closed minded groupthink.

Humanity, forced marched, into the darkness of ignorance, shame on them all, in fact it shames totally the western tradition – in the pursuit of knowledge, that has gone, is ceased and it follows that, figuratively, in reality: only blackness beckons – all of us.

I am very much afraid that you are correct Ariane, dear Lord, how these jerks diminish not only themselves but lower all of humanity. This is, a descent back to the beasts, they spit on and atrophy the pursuit of knowledge and demean, trash the advancement of science.

I curse them, this is the result of post modernism, cultural Marxism and dumbing down begets, hidebound ignorance, as they writhe and revel in, their own craven stupidity.

    Yes “Climate-Change” aka “Global-Warming” is a Religion:
It has all the traits including reluctance to question a currently held belief system, hatred of those with other ideas and absolute denial of conflicting proof. It also makes some people rich and has fanatical followers.
Makes me quite proud to be a Heretic.

Quite right. I had a dose of that in the pub tonight.
It is instructive that ‘believers’ do not wish to discuss the issue, especially when they have made the first reference to it. And I should emphasise that these were friends of mine whom I respect in every other regard.
Because of their reluctance to discuss the issue I was unable to elicit the exact nub of their argument. Which in as of itself is a pointer to it, indeed, being some sort of unthinking religion. “I have been told that this is it, therefore it must be”.
      Very depressing.

Thomas Billings thinks some people don’t ‘believe in climate change.’ Over the last 4 billion years, the Earth’s climate has changed a lot. Over the millenia it has been cold and warm and more recently, we had a warm period and then a very cold one. The Earth’s climate changes predominantly depending on what the sun does. However, anthropogenic CO2 has no effect at all as this is only about 16 units to every 1 million units of atmosphere. The catastrophe propagated was designed by environmentalists in order to control and close down industry.

Victory University is in BC Canada. The Provincial government there is green and fighting a pipe line to the west coast. Her departure is political. The same thing happened to Dr.Judith Curry . The alarmists are a religion and how dare anyone question their science

I posted my take on WUWT

Michael Mann et al went after Willie Soon and Sallie Baliunas, pushing Harvard’s admins to distant themselves from them for simply voicing skepticism. Michael Mann et al also went after the journal Climate Research for simply publishing their thoroughly peer reviewed paper that simply disagreed with Mann’s beliefs. Several climate scientists have reported Mann et al’s bullying. Mann urged governments to list polar bears as endangered in accord with Mann’s dire predictions. Mann recently co-authored a paper with Harvey et al that was a simply a hit peace against Dr. Crockford because she blogged news and peer reviewed research showing polar bears were increasing. I would bet Mann et al were likewise involved in pushing the University of Victoria to terminate Crockford.

Mann et al are the Greatest Threat to the scientific process, a process that demands debate and a thorough accounting of alternative explanations. If you don’t agree with Mann’s “climate crisis”, his thuggery will work relentlessly to denigrate you and marginalize you. He can’t win the scientific argument, so he attacks the arguers. What a POS!

I think polar bears like ice. They live on it. They hunt, rest, sleep, reproduce and raise their young on it. Satellite images On Arctic-news.blogspot.com show a year to year decrease of millions of square miles of ice (aka habitat). If you have 10,000 bears on the ice and all the ice melts and the bears are 800 miles from land. They all die. But we will still have the 18,000 in Canada. No worries right?

I don’t think, but I do see a problem. CH4. Too much CH4. And if it is like last time, CH4 will cause an increase in H2S. Asphyxia occurs at 500 ppm. All animal life dies at 500 ppm of H2S. I guess we should hope they are wrong.
