Jailed Insulate Britain protester went globe-trotting in a gas-guzzling 4×4 pick-up truck

An Insulate Britain activist jailed after blocking traffic spent more than two years driving across the world in a diesel 4×4.
As she was jailed for four months, Emma Smart announced that she was going on hunger strike as she insisted that her actions were “morally right” and “in my heart I know I am on the right side of history”.
But the 44 year old, who has been arrested a number of times for her protest activities, including a previous charge for blocking a motorway, has been accused of hypocrisy after she drove more than 81,000 miles across 52 countries in a diesel vehicle.
A blog post by Smart said that they had returned to the UK to earn money and were in a position to continue their travels in the 25-year-old four-wheel drive in around 2019, but they put the plans “on pause” to join Extinction Rebellion (XR) and engage in climate activism.
Before becoming involved in XR, Smart and her partner, who describe themselves as “valiant adventurers whose dream is to circumnavigate the planet”, drove across Europe, the Western Sahara and central and south-east Asia.
Their travels between 2012 and 2016 included trips to Spain, Italy, Mongolia, Russia, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Iran, India, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia.
They returned to the UK in order to get jobs and earn money, Smart said, and two and a half years after they had returned they had saved enough to ship their Toyota Hilux to South America and begin what they described as “phase 4” of their travels.

Her name, “Smart,” appears as a contradiction in terms.
She may have one “Smart” attribute, namely her decision to use a “25-year-old four-wheel drive Toyota Hilux” for her travels. The UK TV show “Top Gear” repeatedly tried “Kill” to one of these pickups some years ago. But no matter what they tried – dropping it, drowning it, even setting fire to it – the damn thing always started up and could be driven away…

Most people find it better to engage their brain which would guide them in the correct direction.
Worth remembering that in this country only half of any gaol sentence is usually served.
Pretty sure Hitler, Stalin and Mao would say the same thing. Pretty sure all the other people on the wrong side of history thought they were on the right side at the time.

I’ll have to dream-up a cultural or zoological schtick in years to come, as only people conducting studies, like MPs going to Gibraltar, will be allowed to travel at all. The crux of the matter is that the more rules that are contrived the more exceptions will be devised. Gaming the system is rife today in education, immigration, travel, wealth and particularly in politics. The well provided for will always be able to abuse rules based society. The MPs that say they are on fact finding trips (in the day of Zoom) are playing the game of celebrity under the guise of representation. How many days away from Parliament do they spend? When our Parliamentary representative inevitably defer to devious local councils, have no say in the local environment, it makes you wonder what is their worth? If their efforts mould the big issues of our lives and yet ,with so many institutions and issues going awry, they have proven their universal uselessness. The whole system is fluff. The only thing thing that should console us is to remember how vacuous the rich and the political can be. Perhaps we are safer that these people have their own cliques and keep out of our way.

She was probably just bored. When not even traveling across Iran or Cambodia can excite you anymore, why not join a radical eco-terrorist protest movement? That at least should be thrilling.
She gone on hunger strike. She’s got a 4 month sentence, so 2 months inside. Looking at her, that won’t do it if she trying to get BMI down to 25.
She must have emitted more than a lot of CO2 during her travels. Another greenhouse gas, maybe even some hydrogen sulfide? But mostly male bovine excrement.
She should cycle round the world.

Those people are not hypocrites -they’re charlatans pure and simple – like the other eco – worshipers at the alter of climate change.
She might be able to drive around S America, but surely a criminal conviction will prevent her from going to the USA?
When she gets out I suggest you takes her vehicle to a large continent being “badly affected by climate change”, namely Antarctica. She might need to ‘insulate’ well.
