Official data confirms reef in rude good heath

Official data released today reveals that Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is in excellent health, with coral cover reaching record levels for the second consecutive year.

The increase will be surprising to members of the public, who are regularly hit with scare stories about coral bleaching and false tales about a reef in long-term decline.

A new note, published today by the Global Warming Policy Foundation, explains that the data shows clearly how a handful of coral bleaching events that have affected the reef since 2016 have had very limited impact on overall coral cover.

Dr Peter Ridd says:

“In recent years, the media around the world has been reporting coral bleaching events in increasingly apocalyptic terms. This data proves that they are simply scaremongering.”

GWPF director, Dr Benny Peiser said:

“This is just the latest example of empirical data making a mockery of the catastrophists. For how much longer do they think they can get away with it?”

This is excellent news but the GWPF really should take care of their headings:
    “rude good heath”!
Yes, it’s obvious that it should the health, less obvious, perhaps is that you either have rude or good since in this context rude means good.
    Nevertheless, good news.

This is great new whatever side of the debate you’re on, no? Don’t we all want to have a thriving natural world?

It is extremely good news for the AGW sceptics, but very bad news for the Green anti-civilisation gang, a the Barrier Reef is one of their favourite totemic indicators that unless we all go back to the caves (with the exception of the “Great And Good” like Al Gore and the Green Doom Goblin with their private planes and walled enclaves) and freeze in the dark, eschew decent food, cease to have private transport and heat our homes the Earth will catch fire in ten years or less.

“For how much longer do they think they can get away with it?”

I’ve started to think that they can keep going with the doomsday predictions for ever. There have always been extreme weather events and there always will be. Just keep sticking the footage on the telly and keep blaming it on CO2. Earlier predictions that failed to happen can be forgotten about.

“Don’t we all want to have a thriving natural world?”

No, that is the last thing that the alarmists want. They would rather see the whole world go up in flames than be proved wrong and lose their funding and influence.

    From the BBC news website:
“Coral has recovered from storms and bleaching events to record levels across much of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, a survey has found.
The reef’s northern and central parts have the highest amount of coral cover since monitoring began 36 years ago.”
The BBC, of course, couldn’t help adding:
“But coral cover in the southern part of the reef has decreased.”
—and, in typical knee-jerk fashion (ibid):
“The new coral is particularly vulnerable – meaning the progress could be quickly undone by climate change and other threats, officials say.”
They just can’t bring themselves to admit the facts, can they?

The US carried out 67 types of nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll including 22 atom bombs and one hydrogen bomb. The latter, Castle Bravo bomb (March 1st 1954), because of a miscalculation calculation was 1000 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb and left a crater 2000metres in diameter and 76 metres deep. The mushroom cloud contaminated more than 7000 sq miles (18,000sq kms).

The population was removed from the atoll before testing began and has not been allowed to return because of the radioactivity yet scientists found in 2008 that 70% of the atolls previous coral reef species had resettled the lagoon and there was evidence the coral began growing as soon as 10 years after the tests ended.

    Coral is very resilient.

Short version: the US tried to nuke Bikini Atoll to death but didn’t succeed.

I watched whilst this was announced on GBNews this afternoon. The presenter was clearly very amused at the announcement, especially when she had to read the caveat that global warming could impact it at any time. I got the impression that those behind the camera were rolling about laughing at the news, which I must admit caused me to some amusement too.

This is good news. Ever since the Sydney Morning Herald (then the leading Newspaper in Australia) wrote in 1971 that the Great Barrier Reef would be dead by Christmas, I have been worried and unable to sleep. (Not for the SMH which slid slowly downhill into bankruptcy).

I wonder what has led to the large increase in coral cover, and can think of 3 possible explanations:-
A reduction in pollution, overfishing or other harmful human activities.
Coral actually benefits (along with the rest of life) from slightly warmer temperatures.
An increase in atmospheric CO2 leads to an increase in the amount of dissolved CO2 in the oceans that benefits the symbiotic algae that corals rely on.

      Mark,

And the BBC have the temerity to continuously tell us about their impartiality and how they provide news “we can trust”. The only people who could be taken in by that are those with the mental capacity of a hydrocephalic and those who are their partners in crime. They are beyond broken. It is sad to say I for a while hoped that broken institutions could be brought back to normality but in the case of the BBC that is clearly impossible. Perhaps that is part of the plan…..

It is part of the plan . . . I am NOT a conspiracy theorist . . . I generally believe that scientists and researchers put their best foot forward . . . I have been researching ‘Climate Change’ for nearly 15 years . . . In all that time, even with ‘Climategate’ I held my view.
But yesterday I read this paper . . . I am Gobsmacked at the temerity of the IPCC, Environmentalists and all of the endless Zealotry caused by one graph . . . one piece of ‘Flawed’ research by Michael Man, The Hockey Stick Graph, taking over the Global Political and Scientific Narrative . . . This paper blew me away !!

      • August 5, 2022 6:43 pm

Jim I know all about Mann and his gyrations. He is a nasty piece of work. The similarities between the way the despot in Russia and the climate industry reward people for doing bad things is incredible. 30 years ago Mann would not be able to ever get a job again because he committed scientific fraud. He got a professorship after doing it! Putin rewarded the two Salisbury poisoners with promotions! We both know this whole thing is not about science. their faux science is just window dressing. That is why the only things they can point at are polar bears, naturally receding glaciers and ruddy coral. They have nothing else. I will repeat something I have said many times, but it may be something you did not appreciate. Science as we both know is based on statistically significant empirical data. If there is no data, it is not science. Models do not produce empirical data! Anyway, my statement. ”

There exists no statistically significant empirical data of any kind which supports the claim that CO2 returned to the Carbon Cycle by the activities of man during the past 100 years can in any measurable way be shown to be responsible for some or all of the current welcome warming which began 240 years ago ending the Little Ice Age, the fourth such warming in recent human history”..

Now how many times have you heard morons repeat “follow the science” or it is all about the science” Political science maybe, but there is no empirical data to support the claim against CO2 which also physics has a problem with and is confirmed by geological history.

This is the scam of our civilization, and it is being used as a battering ram to tear down all we hold dear.

We keep arguing science, but this is nothing to do with science because if it was there would be a debate. Like all the rest of the asinine causes that the Left champion they only survive because anyone who dare challenge them is denounced as a “denier” or an “ist” of some kind. If there was reasonable debate, then all of their causes would disappear like the smoke and mirrors they are based on.

I could Not agree with you More !!

Everybody . . . over 80% of society has been TAUGHT to believe that Global Warming is ‘Human-Caused’! OK, but only if you continue to ignore history. Twice in the last 2,000 years it has been warmer than it is today! Five times in the last 10,000 years it has been Warmer than it is today! Our current Climate is not exceptional! It is quite simply . . . what everybody has been taught to believe . . . in the absence of open discussion, Scientific Fact or Historical review . . . Environmentalist Dogma and Propaganda . . . RULES . . . Unchallenged . . . Why?

Every Government, every Business Group, every Right-Thinking person in the 21st century knows this to be true! ‘Burning Fossil Fuels and the CO2 emitted causes Global Warming!’. What we now call Climate Change. However when we honestly look back in time . . . History says . . . those correlations are Total Horse Excrement !

History says . . . Volcanoes cause Climate Change . . . Cold Climate Change! All the intervening years are Warmer. For 250,000 years this has been Fact. Only people who study Volcanoes know this . . . Most . . . to protect their careers . . . do not share this knowledge. You must dig deep, one Volcano at a time. Each Volcano over VEI 6 is extremely disruptive bringing Climate Disaster to Planet Earth. Volcanos over VEI 7 bring Catastrophic Global Cooling and Wide-Spread Starvation. VEI 8 volcanoes, not seen in 22,000 years . . . should we see one again . . . may God bless Us ALL! Total, Unimaginable, Global Devastation! 24 hours per day . . . Total Darkness! Leading, once again, to 10 kilometers of ice re-appearing on what today is the Most Arable land on Planet Earth !

Planet Earth is Warm for only the second time in 250 thousand years. This Warming Period permits Food Production in the Prairies, Europe and China. Places where 10 kilometers of Ice would usually stand. For little more than 10 thousand years Humanity has had it good! Life for 7.5 billion people is possible. A mere 25 million souls occupied Equatorial regions of the Earth when Volcanoes and Ice Ruled the World. Let us learn to give thanks to Global Warming and learn to respect Nature as the Supreme Ruler of our Climate and of Real Climate Change on our Little Blue Planet.

All these facts are being ignored by our current ‘Environmental Scientists’. Total Madness at the hands of a group of people who study a 270-year view of Planet Earth . . . As though these few years are ALL Meaning and ALL Proving. I bring 250,000 years to the table . . . because this is Nature . . . This is Planet Earth . . . This is Reality on our Little Blue Planet! Sick as this may seem to some . . . It is the Absolute Truth Today . . . as Always!

      Indeed Gerry.
The way the term “ocean acidification” is bandied about is utter nonsense for a plethora of reasons.
The process of CO2 dissolving in sea water is vastly more complex than simply saying it creates carbonic acid, this description runs to 15 pages of fairly complex mathematical descriptions of the reactions, for example.

Something the so called “scientists” drunk on generous tax payer funding strangely “forget” to note is that there is such a thing as tides affecting the GBR. They also “forget” to mention that subaerial exposure is a very significant cause of bleaching. Corals try to get as close to the source of sunlight as possible and when they get it wrong, they find themselves exposed at low tide and they die. They also “forget” to mention that the same species of corals exist in 5 degree warmer waters in Indonesia and are THRIVING showing that actually they would PREFER warmer water. Isn’t it strange that there are so many “forgetful” people working as scientists in the climate industry.
