Hardly a surprise, is it?

Still, what do human lives matter when we’re saving the planet?

called on the Government to mitigate the risks

Of course. It’s why government exists.

    Not.

Since 2021, electric vehicles have been required to have sound generators installed, but the minimum requirement of 56 decibels is still significantly quieter than that of a petrol or diesel engine.

While 56 decibels is akin to a refrigerator or an office computer, combustion engines make a noise of around 70 decibels which is the equivalent of a busy office, washing machine or vacuum cleaner.

    New metrics?

Above 20 mph, electrics sound like any other car, due to wind and tire noise.

Let’s factor in EV drivers are more important, it is within their rights to crush a commoner who lets them.

They found that 5.16 people on average were hit by an electric or hybrid car for every 100 million miles that type of vehicle had driven, compared with 2.4 people for petrol and diesel cars.

Nationwide, there were 2.32 pedestrian deaths per billion vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in 2021 [U.S.]

Y’all have a much bigger problem than electric cars. Maybe cos “Left, right, left” doesn’t work in England.

Also the acceleration means old habits for dodging London traffic don’t work so well. Nearly wiped out a couple of times rushing for a late train.

My plug-in hybrid makes “engine noises” in electric mode.. So, some progress.

slightly deaf, I was fumbling along a narrow country lane with the dog when a car horn tooted behind me. Nearly leapt out of my skin. A leased EV who’d been shouting at me she said. They need a bicycle bell to be fitted.

No doubt a louder horn than used to be fitted 20 years ago, to go with the searchlights currently fitted as headlights.

“They need a bicycle bell to be fitted.”

Most bicycles don’t seem to have one of those, they qualify as Nobell prize winners.

OK then as far as the degrowth nutters are concerned that is a plus!

Anyway when you are theyving the pwannet you can get away with anything….

EV braking distance is horrible. Bloke thinks he’s stepping out in front of regular car, “He’ll stop.”

    EV can’t.

Study finds the vehicles’ quieter engines* are a significant factor in higher fatality rates

Of course they do, hiding the real problem.

    *What EV has an engine?

A very poor study, using miles driven to make the comparison. That’s absurd as long distance driving rarely encounters pedestrians. A majority of EVs are used in cities which is where most collisions with pedestrians occur. And in cities EVs are a higher proportion of total cars than in the total population. And like for like, EVs are heavier and so will cause you more damage. Basically just junk.

    Crap article, as Phoenix44 says.

As well as the inappropriate distance metric, the data are so old as to be irrelevant: “Edwards and his colleagues studied UK travel and road accident data from 2013 to 2017.”

There were very few EVs on the roads back then and most were short-range city cars, bar the few early Teslas.
