Net Zero Watch says Coutinho must translate words into action

April 30, 2024

By Paul Homewood

Net Zero Watch has welcomed the news that Claire Coutinho has told a conference of entrepreneurs that energy policy is ‘at a fork in the road’.

The Energy Secretary described ‘an ever-increasing and narrowing set of targets…and a net zero leviathan of central planning’, saying that it would crush the economy.

The campaigning organisation’s director Andrew Montford said that if the Government was going to move away from irrational Net Zero policies, it was certainly good news, but warned that Coutinho needed to translate words into action as a matter of urgency, noting the parlous state in which decarbonisation policy had left the motor sector:

‘If we are to save UK car manufacturing, Claire Coutinho has to cancel the Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate for good, and soon.’

It will be a miracle if Coutinho does anything sensible about the Net Zero scam. I wouldn’t put any money on it.

More hollow rhetoric I fear – the socialist Tories have had 14 years to establish an indigenous energy policy and to repeal the CCA and scrap the CCC – they are as signed up to the globalist climate scam as the opposition are – Both Starmer and Sunak are WEF acolytes and will progress net zero as if their international credibilities depend on it
Net Zero tat (battery cars, heat pumps, bug burgers, smart meters etc) would not get a look in by consumers who have a choice, hence the push to scrap ICE cars, gas boilers etc, so there is zero choice – you will obey and be poorer, colder and hungrier for the pleasure
Although I welcome Couthino’s words, until they scrap net zero altogether and start fracking our indigenous gas supplies and building more CCGT and nuclear, I will continue to resist any net zero nonsense and spread the truths among those willing to listen

Remember when she said that paying increased amounts to wind generation having failed to get any interest in a recent capacity auction would save us money? Maths is not the little girl’s strong point obviously.

Anyone could recite the texts from the civil service climate BS machine. No skill or experience needed.

I wouldn’t expect any business in the UK to believe anything the government told them. One cannot ignore all that has been said and done over the last decades. To wit, should Claire Coutinho cancel the Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate, there’s nothing to stop her or others from reinstating it, nor is there reason to believe they won’t.

    Perfidious Albion.

Faith and trust can only begin with repeal of CCA and Net Zero. All else is intrigue.

Perhaps we can replace Sushi’s bimbo with somebody better come election time – a nice Reform person perhaps. I don’t hold out great hopes though as while the fields here are full of sheep so are the polling stations. Thursday will be interesting as we have to elect 3 district councillors this time and there is a coordinated campaign by the residents to get elected and ensure the uniparty candidates fail. Under Tory control the council was on the verge of bankruptcy.

As long as he/she is energy sector competent, not a PPE Grad lawyer or banker, that’s the first hurdle to cross

Huh, having my fill of such folk and their “Dictats” today. So like so many of our british politicians, is she truly British, I mean REALLY British ?  The lot of them, have they really got the interests of the electorate at heart ?

Coutinho is like Sushi, born here from immigrant parents, other than that I don’t know much else. Sushi however has an Indian wife and his children are raised as Indians such they would fit in perfectly back home. Although most people expect him to swan off back to the US where he somehow made a lot of many whereas in his time here all he has done is be incompetent, although maybe that was just to fit in with all the other MPs.

She runs DESNZ, Dept of Energy Security and Net Zero. That is an oxymoron, you cannot have both, its one or the other.

So which one does she go for? It really does not matter as loony Ed Miliband will soon be in charge.

    We are doomed.

She will go for the one set up and promoted by the globalist elites – these energy / climate science incompetent politicians won’t put Britain first, they know where their careers and future prospects lay – Milliband, a life long extreme socialist, with zero energy competence, will quickly find that reality is a great teacher as his net zero dreams come crashing down around him, but not before I fear, he’s caused a deal of pain and suffering through his hubris and incompetence

Spot on! The dept’s name should be altered slightly to “Dept of Energy Security OR Net Zero”.

The Reform UK party is the country’s only chance of brining back sanity to so many aspects of life, as we know it.
Share this fact with as many people as possible. Liebour, Libs (Greens) and the Cons are all signed up to the destruction of society.

I’ll try and be a bit more positive here and that she’s laying the seed for further change but has to be cautious give the weight of eco loons lined up against any change its going to be baby steps from here.

    Green shenanigans in Germany

  10. May 1, 2024 9:32 am

If Coutinho cancels the ZEV mandate, the Green Blob will throw a wobbly and launch a flurry of lawfare suits against the government, which are likely to succeed, because Net Zero is written into law. Net Zero is fundamentally at odds with the ‘free market’ which Coutinho moronically touts in her hollow speech, outlining her desire to modify how Net Zero targets are IMPOSED upon the public such that policy is driven by free market enterprise. It’s 100% meaningless waffle from her. The ONLY way that the situation will improve and further damage avoided to British industry is for CCA 2008 to be repealed immediately. Coutinho knows it. This is just spin.

A first step would be to amend the regulations that introduced the 100% reduction by 2050 since secondary legislation does not go through the long process that an Act of Parliament does. So first off back to 80%, and then further reductions.

Problem there is, if the Conservatives did that before the next election, it’s almost certain that Labour would reverse it as soon as they get in.

Written into Law is true, don’t forget the Energy Bill in November passed into Law,

sending us to Prison for up to 12 months if we don’t confirm to the Energy Requirements of Net Zero for our properties.
