Sorry BBC. The world isn’t interested in the West’s groupthink obsession with global warming

Booker’s piece is on Katowice today:

With the arrival of the season of goodwill, it would obviously not be appropriate to touch on the ever more dismaying shambles we are making of Brexit. But last week also saw what, in global terms, was a much more important event, the real historical significance of which has passed the world by.

That mammoth UN climate conference in Poland may have opened with an apocalyptic warning by Sir David Attenborough that, unless we “act now” on global warming, we face “the collapse of our civilisations and the extinction of much of the natural world”. But what followed over the next two weeks, despite the best efforts of the BBC and others to pretend otherwise, was that the 22,000 delegates gathered in Katowice achieved nothing at all.

Their proclaimed purpose was to get “back on track” the 2015 Paris climate accord, designed to limit “the rise in global temperatures to no more than 1.5C above their pre-industrial levels”, by committing the world to a 45 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.

Their guiding principle was to endorse an emergency IPCC report that this would require “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society”. They wanted the world’s “developed nations” to contribute $100 billion a year to a Green Climate Fund, to persuade still “developing nations” to follow the West’s lead in phasing out use of fossil fuels.

Despite 12 days of unbelievably tedious and fractious argument, none of this happened. A motion “to welcome” the IPCC report was vetoed by the US, Russia and several other oil-producing countries. The “$100 billion a year Green Climate Fund” was yet again kicked down the road for further discussion at some future date. And the “nearly 200 nations” represented could not agree on any binding steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions whatever.

All they were left with was what the BBC described as “the rules” that “are key to the game”. This was a tortuous agreement that both the developed and developing countries would accept common rules for measuring their own emissions. This alone was what enabled the BBC to claim forlornly that “the conference was a success”, because it showed “China showing leadership” by accepting that it and the US are at last both “on the same page”.

But herein lies the real reason why not just this UN conference but Paris, Copenhagen and all the other 23 before it ended in failure. The real problem goes all the way back to the Rio “Earth Summit” of 1992, when its utopian socialist organiser Maurice Strong first insisted on that division between “developed” and “developing” countries. His core principle was that the then-richer countries should lead the way in cutting their emissions, leaving the then-poorer countries, such as China and India, free to catch up economically (while subsidising them to follow suit in due course).

What we have seen, of course, is that those “developing countries” have been free to power on, to the point where China and India are now not only the world’s first and third-highest emitters of CO2 but intend, as they made clear in Paris, to carry on building hundreds more coal-fired power stations.

So, as we have seen, global emissions are continuing to rise and there is no way most of the rest of the world is any longer paying any more than lip-service to the Western world’s groupthink obsession with global warming. The UN and the West may continue to believe in their apocalyptic scare stories. But the rest of world is carrying on regardless.

The BBC may comfort itself with its make-believe that the rules are “key to the game”. But the real lesson of Katowice is that in reality the whole game is well and truly over. It’s time we all woke up to that fact.

And while the climate hogs were at their trough in Poland the yellow vests were rioting in France against their government taking one more step towards making them serfs. In the end, all the threats of climate disaster in the future and all the talks about how to refine their message to convince more people, and all of the indoctrination of the kids in school will not achieve the ends they desire. People are happy to give lip service to climate change, but to convince them to make real sacrifices that are against their own financial best interests will take either the actions of a police state to force it or a real sustained climactic event which hurts them.

The greatest Ponzi scheme ever designed – man made warbling, and all that perversity palliaties (birdmincers) – a gross and massive financial injury.

Ah but the ongoing the insult is that, the UN-EU scam merchants manage to continue to breathe life into the global warming Dodo.

FFS, what people actually need to know is that they are being stiffed by the Political cliques in the EU and the US, Aus, Can, NZ to fund this lavish gabfest.

Thus I beg, WHEN, when TF are the taxpayers going to say NO?

    say no to liblavCON-green.

Agree entirley with your comment, but despite everything we still have the “green anything but blob running things ans our unutterably stupid government still cannot see. They are totally blind to what is happening in the real world outside of Westminster!

The BBC will not take any notice. Their agenda is not for changing.

But we can all try, by signing this:

The Daily Mail was making merry out of the supposed oddity that various Jihadist groups had banned plastic bags as bad for the environment.

The irony that the trio of eco-catastrophe frauds (CO2/plastic/air pollution) being promoted by the DM and the rest of the MSM are intended to restrict and control us every bit as severely as the Taliban, was somewhat lost.

The fact that the world is not interested in controlling emissions is that no new policies by countries were made. The nearest was £200,000 put forward by Scotland. In IPCC terms Scotland is two tiers below a national participant. That is the EU represents its members, and Scotland is a part of one of its members. The BBC’s disconnect with reality is shown in a comment on the new agreement made by Matt McGrath

The Katowice agreement aims to deliver the Paris goals of limiting global temperature rises to well below 2C.

The UNEP emissions GAP Report 2018 claims that to achieve the 2C target emissions in 2030 need to be at least 25% lower than today. If all the NDCs are fully implemented emissions will be 5-10% higher than today. I have complained to the BBC about McGrath’s misleading comment. The substance of my complaint is here.

    Green Climate Fund

Someone with proper research skills (above my pay grade) needs to uncover the properties and characteristics of this Green Climate Fund. A couple of years ago I saw a bit about it being established as a UN thing(?) in South Korea, with directors accountable to no one, and protected from scrutiny from anyone, and immune from prosecution even if caught for any misdeed.
The idea, it appears, was to set up this Fund such that it could not become another stain on the United Nations, as did the Oil for Food scandal. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Strong#2005_Oil-for-Food_scandal

Saving the world is one thing but actually giving up something valuable to do it is asking too much when you aren’t sure your actions will have any results on achieving the goal.

Hard for me to comment on the BBC because unlike so many others who keep complaining about them, I stopped watching them.

Remember, the BBC bias on climate is just the one that is now obvious to you because it so clearly contradicts the scientific facts. But almost all their content is similarly biased, and as regular watchers you just are not aware of this fact until you switch them off completely. Then wait six months without being subject to their daily propaganda – and then watch just one news …. it will astonish you the mad cap ideas they constantly pour into the sheeple’s ears and which most people just don’t realise aren’t their own views at all.

To put it bluntly, the BBC are just a brain washing unit for their own politics.

I wouldn’t ever watch any BBC news output, but I also find that I am not keen to watch any of their drama either as there is usually some left-wing liberal message within or they make stupid changes to a classic story to meet their prejudices. For example, in my day Doctor Who was just entertainment.

Unless or until they re-visit the notion of ‘greenhouse gas emissions’ the lunacy will continue.

All attempts to incorporate it into climate models have led to gross exaggerations of warming that are not observed in reality. When will anyone get the obvious message?

    The GWPF article
\\ Public interest in “climate change” peaked in March 2007 as Al Gore and “An Inconvenient Truth” basked in the glow of an Academy Award win, but faded away ever since.//

The Beeb are not only guilty of bias in their reporting but of bias by omission as well. For example, currently, no mentions of the sensible concessions that are creeping out of the EU on transport, flights, visas etc.

“Katowice has shown once more the resilience of the Paris Agreement – our solid roadmap for climate action.”

“The approval of the Paris Agreement Work Programme is the basis for a transformative process which will require strengthened ambition from the international community. Science has clearly shown that we need enhanced ambition to defeat climate change.”

Enhanced ambition will not bury billions of tons of oxidized carbon. There is no place to safely put it. As for “their” solid roadmap? There will be no roads to drive on with asphalt and cement eliminated in the name of “climate change”. Are these people realistic at all?
