LONDON (AP) — The coronavirus pandemic threatens to derail any progress made in recent years to deal with the climate change crisis, organizers of the annual gathering of business and political elites in the Swiss ski resort of Davos said Tuesday.

In a survey of industry professionals that reassesses the risks to the global outlook in light of the pandemic, the World Economic Forum said "years of progress" on addressing climate change could be undone and that it is important for countries to make sure environmental issues are at the heart of recovery plans.

Germany is on track to widely miss its EU obligations to reduce CO2 emissions, even if the EU does not follow through plans to step up its ambitions in the fight against climate change, according to calculations by think tank Institute for Applied Ecology (Öko-Institut). In sectors that are not covered by the Emissions Trading System (ETS) such as buildings, transport and agriculture, Germany is on course to lower emissions by 28 percent by 2030 compared to 2005 with existing legislation, falling short of its effort-sharing target of minus 38 percent.

Peak-hour morning traffic in Beijing has surged as commuters shun public transport in favor of their cars amid continued concerns over the spread of coronavirus.

Despite lockdowns being lifted, it is no surprise that people are hesitant to board crowded commuter trains and are instead preferring to drive. Data for weekday subway passenger numbers on the Beijing network show a recovery to only 52% of the pre-virus average. This compares with morning peak-hour road congestion that is now 50% above normal levels.

The trends in Beijing and other Chinese cities provide a bellwether for how people are likely to behave as lockdowns are lifted around the world. The reluctance of commuters to use public transport may also be compounded by capacity restrictions and social distancing measures on trains and in stations.

Oh the irony. The impoverishment caused by Covid-19 was just what the green blob would have imposed with their insane climate policies.
Predictably such irony passes them by.

One of my favorite people is Dr. Thomas Sowell, an American economist and social theorist.
He is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

He has written many books and has many memorable quotes, but my favorite is: “Reality is not optional.”

Rapid decarbonization? Lower carbon emissions? That takes no CO2 out of the air.

The Global CCS Institute, April, 2020: “Collectively, the 19 large-scale CCS facilities in operation have the capacity to capture and permanently store 39 million tonnes of CO2 every year. The total capture capacity of all 51 large-scale facilities in the pipeline is 98 million tonnes of CO2 per year.”

That will not even lower the atmosphere by one part-per-million…7,800 million tons…200 years! No Net-zero!

Worse than that. If any of the ignoramuses proposing this nonsens paid attention to geological history they would know there actually IS an atmospheric CO2 crisis! However the crisis which has been developing for 160million years is a crisis of TOO LITTLE not to much as the cretins making money or political capital out of this would have you believe., That alone shows how little credible science underpins this obscenity against the Enlightenment. This issue is that the Carbon Cycle has been out of sync for 160 million years since marine organisms evolved to sequestrate CO2 to combine with Calcium to make Calcium Carbonate tests or exoskeletons (CaCO3). That they have been supremely good at it is shown by the huge quantities of carbonaceous rocks around the world. CO2 unlike what the cretins with an agenda claim is found in three mediums not two. Rocks, Water and Air. The CO2 in rocks is bound up and removed from the Carbon Cycle, hence the problem. By burning fossil fuels we have very briefly inadvertently halted the serious decline but it is momentary on a geological time scale. The evidence is very straight forward and clear. In the depths of the first part of the current Ice Age atmospheric CO2 levels fell to around 180ppm which folks is around 20ppm above the death of plants and as a consequence the death of all life as we know it. If the 160my decline is forward plotted (This is REAL forward modelling with real data for 160 million years to set the trend) then it can be seen that the line for atmospheric CO2 will intersect the 160ppm line in around 1.5 million years OR SOONER. With this in mind, given that physics shows us that not only is the greenhouse effect a none event (and there is NO statistically significant empirical data in existence which supports a contrary view) and that what ever trivial contribution the greenhouse effect has as shown by the electromagnetic signatures of CO2 and Water Vapour, it is the 100 x more common Water Vapour which has the greatest absorption at the infrared end of the spectrum totally swamping the signature of CO2 which has a brief spike in the Ultra low end of the IR. With this in mind, what on earth are we thinking about allowing such asininity as is shown by ideas to remove precious CO2 from the atmosphere credibility let alone money! What we need to do it find a way to liberate the CO2 locked up in carbonaceous rocks when the fossil fuel runs out. This truly is the end of the Enlightenment when crass stupidity allied to maggot business will actively attempt to hasten the end of life on Earth while claiming to “save the planet”.

Meanwhile weather forecasts are good for about 3 hours, and climate change models can’t even get the past correct.
I agree that plants need CO2 and the current concentration is insufficient for optimal photosynthesis. Let’s go for 888 ppm.
So not stressing about that 1.5 million years.

Joe Biden has picked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to become the co-chairwoman of the panel setting his climate change agenda. Her Green New Deal proposal is estimated to cost $93 trillion. You couldn’t make up the insanity of what is going on.

and he seems to be really far ahead in the polls. Although this seems unbelievable to me, given that Biden is now so far left as well as in China’s pocket, the latest Quinnipiac poll has him with an astonishing 11 point advantage. I don’t know what to say about that.

But no! AOC has said that there is NO COST to passing the economy and life destroying Green New Deal legislation. While this may be true if you then don’t do anything about enacting it but then why would you bother with it in the first place? Just goes to show how deranged the woman is.

When it comes to polls it would be wise to remember that they have been wrong on just about every major vote in recent years. Shows the difference between words and actions.
