Julia Leaves Green Party Spokesman Speechless

July 27, 2020

By Paul Homewood

h/t WUWT

Back in February the Court of Appeal ruled against Heathrow’s third runway. The following day, Julia Hartley-Brewer interviewed Caroline Russell, National Transport Spokesperson for the Green Party and Chair of the London Assembly Environmental Committee.

I recall the car crash of an interview, but WUWT have now found it on You Tube.

The whole thing is absolutely hilarious, and throughout Russell can find little to say other than “but we must switch to renewable energy“.

The segment at 11 mins in is particularly worth listening to, where JHB asks how much of our energy comes from wind/solar. Russell has no clue at all, even to the nearest 10%, but promises to google it. Panicking, she then says that there is a twitter website showing hourly figures, but the they go up and down a lot. JHB, with a mischievous grin, replies that that is one of the problems!

Enjoy!

Caroline Russell is a typical Green Party person – totally clueless (and that is a compliment).

The green party – bankrupting established western countries one by one, by handing over all commercial opportunities to developing countries (who cannot believe their luck). Don’t vote for these turkeys.

It’s just words.Occasionally a sentence, although rarely a coherent one, and absolutely no basis in reality. And this is the danger. The green agenda sounds so fluffy and good that people accept such nonsense without question. It is just so nice to be busy being virtuous and saving the planet.

Oh dear, the 40,000 real deaths every year from air pollution has risen again like a zombie. I’m surprised that Robert Winston has joined this bunch of innumerates. Perhaps he’s gone soft since being nobled in the H o L.

Caroline was trying to make her green world all chocolate box pretty, safe and virtuous. Its typical of these green activists who can live in this real world but reach out for a utopian world of no pollution, free energy that has no carbon footprint and everybody loving each other. Idealists with no comprehension of difficult facts, like the % of energy produced currently by renewables, and no idea how human being organise themselves. I’m amazed how anyone can vote for them.

There is an old joke regarding two places that others think are a bit backward.
Question: What happens when a person from ABX moves to CDY?
Answer: The IQ of both places go up.

It appears to me that something like this – but inverted – occurs when a green sort, with a good amount of intelligence investigates in a serious manner, and jumps from the green wagon.
The collective green IQ goes down, and so does the collective IQ of skeptics (aka “deniers”). That is, what took them so long to learn what skeptics have known for years?
The pool of green activists seems to get dumber, as evidenced by Caroline Russell.

Background reading; Ted Cruz questions Sierra Club President Aaron Mair

At a {2015} hearing of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight, Cruz subjected him to a withering cross examination. Mair was reduced to stammering and frequent awkward pauses which he used to receive whispered advice from staff. He repeatedly referred to the discredited “97 percent of scientists concur” claim, and was unwilling to acknowledge valid scientific data that disproves the claim.

My only disquiet about this is that Julia, sitting next to us in the studio, has all the advantages of clarity and authority that gives compared to someone trying to make their points over a low bandwidth (i.e. very crappy) telephone line. Plus the engineers have rigged it by making her very quiet and Julia loud and clear. If this was green blob interviewing Paul Homewood I would be crying foul on the set up.

OT. Professor Andrew Cruden of Southampton University has an interesting article in The Conversation just out. In it he looks at the need for battery storage in order make the enormous expansion of offshore wind work and he favours the use of electric car batteries instead of the even more expensive fixed type. The figure for the storage needed is given in MW, not MWh but it appears that if every car had a 50kWh battery, it would be sufficient.

Leaving aside the problem of finding that the grid has swiped your kWhs just when you needed to drive it, there is no mention of the storage needed during a two week wind lull in the middle of a freezing winter.

Perhaps Paul could give the article a going over.

A triumph for the concept of free Speech. Whether on the far right or far left, you have got to listen to EVERYONE’S opinions, then you can spot the clueless, the bullshitters and the dangerous. Caroline Russell fell through JHB’s trap door into all camps;OOPS!
