on countryfile yesterday the feather forecaster banged on about the high night time temperature and then he said ” it will be few degrees cooler in rural areas” I wonder why that is ….UHI perhaps?

    I truly despair

The Met Office doesn’t like CET, and prefers its own average for the UK. The weather station for the whole South East of England is where? In a sheltered spot on Box Hill? In deepest Kent? Nope, it’s right on the edge of the region, Heathrow, of course.

The people who pay for the HEATHROW weather numbers, the airlines, want the data as close as possible to the runways, as that is fed into their takeoff spreadsheets for their expensive planes

Liverpool Airport reached 32C according to netweather (it might be a late reporter or not on the MO’s list?).

I noticed on netweather that so far Heathrow has not been as dominant at the top of the hottest list. It is always dominated by airports though.

The hottest air was not so focused/present in the SE, as is often the case, at first – e.g. NI probably set an all time record (NW of Liverpool) a few days ago.

Liverpool airport had. either new thermometers, or moved the recording equipment in March. Temperatures have been about 1.8C warmer since.

Sounds like it needs checking then, as it’s suddenly a regular front runner.

Has been especially hot in the NW BI though, as per Ballywatticock!

Nice work, I guess you’ll have to wait for a reply from the MO, if it ever comes!

Fascinating website, Neil. Thank you. I’m very glad to have found it thanks to your comment.

When Richard Fairey opened his grass landing-strip on part of the heath there in 1930 it was nothing like as hot. You see, it’s all these rich people flying everywhere that’s done it.

“under grey skies” at Fair Isle. That is one of the reasons why climate models have problems with simulating the effects of clouds.

    Neil C above.
I have just looked at your site-incredibly good in every way.I congratulate you on your work and dedication that you have applied to this so very important subject.
I notice that of course you have the copyright for your endeavours, but Iwould like to ask you if I can send somehow the “Weather and Climate ” section as a printout to my local MP here in Lincoln,to educate him if possible.
    Thankyou for your consideration.

avro607, absolutely. You have my permission. I have done a pdf to combat councils climate emergency nonsense. If you would to discuss you can email me from the website. The document is flexible and can include weather data for your local area.

Liverpool just hit 38C ha ha. They must have moved the weather recording equipment next to an air con unit.

Weird how it was neck and neck with Heathrow, then left it for dead like a sprint cyclist with a hidden electric motor in his pedal crank.

Forgot to say, Katesbridge is also the site that posts an extraordinary number of coldest in country readings – supposedly it is genuine and down to the unique location.

So, our UK government wants to bankrupt the country, causing untold suffering – mainly to those on lowest incomes – all to reduce our UK CO2 emissions (which don’t affect the climate anyway) from our current output of 0.0000125% (of total atmospheric CO2) down to what exactly?

Having a weather station at one of the worlds busiest international airports with it’s enormous urban heat island effect breaks just about every rule in the book. That’s why the met office use it as their poster child rather than Kew gardens only 6 miles away
