Probably the most extreme August in our series was that of 1971.

Much of northern England saw double the usual rainfall, and there were some extremely heavy rainfalls at times. Flooding was reported in many places as far apart as Bristol, Durham, Londonderry and York.

To cap it all, temperatures fell below freezing on the 8th in Lanarkshire:

Paul, where do you get historical rainfall data for Scotland from. I really would like to pinpoint the wet summer of 50 odd years ago that I remember. A site to download data would be finr.

    Thanks

We’re having a serious drought in the far north of Scotland – second driest summer in 160 years according to local paper (Sutherland and Caithness). Wick River is dry. Some rain would be good.
