Greenpeace accused of siding with Putin and putting British security at risk

Greenpeace has been accused of making Britain more vulnerable to Russian blackmail by urging a judge to block drilling at a major North Sea gas field.

The eco campaign group claims Shell was wrongly granted a development licence for the Jackdaw field without proper environment checks last month, in defiance of the UK’s climate commitments.

It has brought a legal challenge against the Government and is vowing to frustrate other schemes brought forward in the North Sea as well.

Philip Evans, a spokesman for Greenpeace UK, said the decision to approve Jackdaw was a scandal and would make no difference to domestic energy bills.

But a Whitehall source claimed that blocking domestic oil and gas production would leave Britain more exposed to European markets and a potential squeeze by the Kremlin.

The war in Ukraine has forced European Union countries to cut their consumption of Russian gas and find alternative sources after Vladimir Putin suggested a key pipeline could be turned off.

The Whitehall source said: "Choking off domestic oil and gas does nothing to reduce demand, it simply leaves Britain more reliant on foreign imports, more vulnerable to supply shocks, and more exposed to Kremlin attempts to weaponise the gas market.

“The only people who want to stop North Sea production are Greenpeace activists and Putin.

"We support the extraction of North Sea oil and gas and will vigorously defend this decision."

Greenpeace rejected that suggestion, pointing to statements made by ministers themselves which downplayed the impact North Sea resources can have on the energy crisis.

Jackdaw, which sits roughly 155 miles east of Aberdeen, could account for as much as 6.5pc of the North Sea’s total gas output by 2025 under plans put forward by Shell.

Although the company’s plans for the field were initially knocked back by environmental regulators, they were later approved in June following revisions.

On Monday Shell confirmed it had taken the final investment decision to proceed. Zoe Yujnovich, Shell’s upstream director, said: "Investments like Jackdaw are… providing the energy people need today while serving as the foundation for investments in the low carbon energy system of the future.”

It came after ministers stressed that while Britain must cut down on fossil fuels in the long term, there was a need to bolster domestic production after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sent international oil and gas markets into turmoil.

However, Greenpeace argues that the Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment & Decommissioning (Opred) failed in its legal duty to carry out checks on Jackdaw’s environmental impact.

For instance, they say Opred must consider not just the emissions created by the process of extracting gas from the field but also the emissions that will result from burning that same gas.

Overall they estimate 284.4bn cubic feet of gas will be extracted from Jackdaw, as well as 2m barrels of non-gas liquids, resulting in more than 16m tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Greenpeace miss the point totally (and probably deliberately) – if we don’t burn gas from the North Sea, we will burn gas from somewhere else.

And it their very policies which have already led to much bigger losses of output in Europe, which has ultimately led to Putin’s control of European energy.

    This about sums up Greedpeace.
Patrick Albert Moore (born June 15, 1947) is a Canadian industry consultant, former activist, and past president of Greenpeace Canada. Since leaving Greenpeace in 1986,[2] Moore has criticized the environmental movement for what he sees as scare tactics and disinformation, saying that the environmental movement “abandoned science and logic in favor of emotion and sensationalism”.

But it is not just Greenpeace .The whole environmental movement is just Putins Usefull Idiots .
The heads of the UN IPCC admitted a long time ago that the aim of all of the Global Warming / Climate Change agenda was to bring an end to Western democracy so that they could have a one world socialist government .
      https://thenewamerican.com/un-agenda-2030-a-recipe-for-global-socialism/?print=pdf

And their way of doing it is to bankrupt the countries with insane emissions laws and stop the use of much more efficient fossil fuels .

So they have been paying politicians , taking control of the media , and getting the ignorant Greenies to do their bidding by telling endless lies ..

Strange I have never witnessed Greenpeace complaining about let alone litigating against the WWF Sierra Club Nature Conservancy
and other environmentalist NGO’s for receiving large donations
from fossil fuel companies .[ See the No Frakking Consensus articles ” Oil Company Money For Me But Not For Thee ” and ” Greenpeace Employer From Hell “] .. They must be a values based NGO like the ones I just mentioned

Greenpeace sounds like a dandy peacenik title but many Greenpeace activists are vicious deranged bullies as the unpersoned refusenik Patrick Moore can attest [ So can I ] . The old Greenpeace motto lauded lying [ something along the lines of : it doesnt matter what is true only what people believe is true ] They stalk slander surveil , threaten litigate against and bribe people [ even to the gruesome extent of staging animal torture videos ] desecrate world heritage sites and were complicit in the campaigns to ban DDT [ Greenpeace later denied any involvement but this is another lie ] and Golden Rice which has led to the disfigurement and deaths of millions …Greenpeace even sought to prohibit the chemical additive chorline .Can you envision how many thousands would die from water borne diseases if chlorine was expunged from water supplies .? .None of this insanity seems to be problematic for the BBC who have consorted with Greenpeace activists in an advisory capacity in the past

You are right : Greenpeace are not the only useful idiots of Putins regime So too Boris Johnson Carrie Symonds and his family .[ Boris Johnson is close to the co owner of The Independent Evgeny Lebedev whose oligarch father was a pro Putin KGB officer… Stanley Johnson is an Extinction Rebellion aficionado and friends with CCP officials ] the British intelligence service MI6 and its mad hatter climate espionage mission and the UK Ministry of Defence with their silly goal to attract ‘green recruits ” and turn the armed forces ‘carbon neutral ‘ have become the unwitting useful idiots of radical environmentalists and by extension Vladimir Putin and Russian gas companies who are now blackmailing Europe .. On the eve of Putins invasion of Ukraine the Ministry of Defence was virtue signaling on Twitter the success of a gay coffee morning . I cant imagine how Vladimir Putin and his generals would have felt emboldened to send tanks and bombers into Ukraine They have learned nothing from the Kremlins covert influencing and financing of nuclear disarmament groups and unions in the 1970’s and 1980’s that ironically compelled Margaret Thatcher and her strategists [ a prudent understandable move at the time ] to demonize coal and proselytize the global warming scare to break the power of Scargill and the Communist controlled mining unions . ….

.Now it has all come full circle and the Kremlin is once again subverting and attempting to hold the United Kingdom to ransom with the connivance of useful idiot radical activists

Not just Putin’s useful idiots but China’s also.

I am reading Dr. Patrick Moore’s 2021 book, “Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom” right now. He takes on all of the current favorite scare issues and nukes them. I have not yet finished the hugely long chapter “Climate of Fear and Guilt.” I highly recommend this book.

The Govt needs to repeal the Climate Chg Act to prevent these nonsensiical legal actions, and cancel Net Zero.
Previous posts here havelisted what the Govt. needs to do,so some more MP “bothering” is urgently required.

Is this the same Greenpeace that broke into Sizewell B through the security fence injuring a security guard, tried to electrocute themselves on a live crane rail, then tried unsuccessfully to break into one of the safety building, then scaled the containment dome and had to be rescued by the station staff? Is it that incompetent Greenpeace?

    Off topic, but as it’s Greenpeace and their desire for all things battery-operated I thught this rather relevant: An electric bus fire in the US forces the state to revert to diesel;

It’s long past time for an in depth investigation into their finances. I suspect that, like the CND back in the day, a lot of money comes from Russia. They are being paid to destroy our economy and make our country vulnerable to foreign influence.
Is there a name for people who do that?
