Shock news from the Guardian – Children want to bunk off school for the day!

The school climate strikes that have led to tens of thousands of young people taking to the streets around the world over recent months are poised to arrive in the UK next Friday.

Thousands of pupils are expected to walk out of lessons at schools and colleges across the country amid growing concern about the escalating climate crisis.

The movement started in August when the 16-year-old schoolgirl Greta Thunberg held a solo protest outside Sweden’s parliament. Now, up to 70,000 schoolchildren each week are taking part in 270 towns and cities worldwide.

Individual protests have been held in the UK, but next week a coordinated day of action is expected to result in walkouts in more than 30 towns and cities – from Lancaster to Truro, and Ullapool to Leeds.

Jake Woodier, of the UK Youth Climate Coalition, which is helping to coordinate the strikes, said Greta’s message about the need for radical, urgent change had struck a chord with hundreds of thousand of young people in the UK.

“The images of what Greta did and then the huge strikes by schoolchildren in other countries have been widely shared by young people on social media and have really inspired people.”

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/feb/08/global-school-strikes-over-climate-change-head-to-the-uk

One wonders why they don’t hold these protest marches at weekends. (Silly me- nobody would turn up, the kids would have better things to do, like playing on their X-Boxes!)

Meanwhile the hard left wing head teachers union seem to think it is a good idea to encourage kids and parents to break the law:

Perhaps, if the children really are concerned about the climate, they could make a really positive contribution by walking to school instead of arriving in mummy’s car, throwing away their i-Pads, Nintendos and smart phones, and donating their pocket money the UN’s climate fund.

I notice the kid in the polar ear outfit….so this nonsense is still being peddled. By whom?
Is this outburst evidence of the power of the social media…ie identity beliefs. Or is this the school teachers quietly working away filling their heads with misinformation?

If they stayed in school and studied history, statistics and ‘real’ climate sciences, they’d discover they’re being taken as mugs and used as puppets. They can then sleep at nights because there’s nothing to worry about!

Scary when schoolchildren are indoctrinated, before they are old enough to make an independent assessment of the facts. Look back in history and eventually the whole population is converted. (North Korea Now, China in the 60’s and Germany in the 30’s)

It is an assumption that the teachers were not, themselves, indoctrinated. The public at large has been propagandized about the dangers of CO2 from fossil carbon. This has been promoted by politicians and the media who follow them. That is the disgrace.

At least the children are thinking about their future. As should we all. I am a climate warming sceptic but was originally inspired by the “limits to growth” and the Cub of Rome” as a youngish student. Whilst their time scales were way out I still believe that we are all facing an uncertain future which will not be solved by technology. Overpopulation and resource depletion will become more and more important. For all you metropolitan inhabitants who live in large cities you will notice hardly any difference. It may get a bit more crowded and polluted but will you notice. It may even get to resemble the future in Blade Runner. For those of us who like wide open spaces, fresh air and an omnivorous diet it will become hell on earth. Now add Global warming (man made or otherwise) into the mix and the overpopulated areas will have to move North, making it even more difficult to maintain that bucolic ideal. Well that’s that then. Pessimism rules. Limiting family sizes may be the best option for the future.

These children are not thinking, they are being fed false information deliberately and are being used unashamedly to push a political message by hardcore AGW scientists and behind the scenes money men like Al Gore and George Soros.

Overpopulation? Globally slowing if not declining. “The Oldest Eco-Scare Goes Up In Smoke” https://www.thegwpf.com/empty-planet-the-oldest-eco-scare-goes-up-in-smoke/

Resource depletion? Peak oil dates back to the 50’s, still new discoveries, gas in abundance, enough coal for hundreds of years. There is no energy resource issue other than the attempts to stop us using what is provided in nature.

I also like wide open spaces and hate their destruction with wind turbines and solar “farms”. I love wildlife and photograph birds and animals constantly. If you are a climate warming sceptic, why do you think there is going to be “hell on earth”? There is nothing unique about current climates around the world, we have more benign weather since the end of the Little Ice Age. Previous centuries and millennia experienced seriously extreme weather events with massive loss of life, all without the aid of the magic molecule CO2.

There has been no “warming” for getting on for 20 years, in spite of the constant claims of hottest ever. Family sizes tend to be self-limiting as countries acquire wealth.

Not wishing to be unkind but there really is no basis for your imaginings in this post. The Club of Rome were not just way out on time scales, they were just wrong and yet they are still around, with its offshoots the Club of Madrid and the Club of Budapest. Their members are former heads of state, billionaires, UN bureaucrats etc and they have a global governance agenda, as they have always had.

    • February 12, 2019 8:37 am

If you look, you’ll notice that the countries with low population growth are those that have developed, primarily through the use of mass, reliable & cheap energy sources, coal, oil, gas & nucear. If you want population control in countries like India, China, etc then let them also develop. Secondly, the link between CO2 and temperature, where CO2 leads, is only in the models. In observations, temps lead, on all timescales.

I quite agree.. the only point I was making was that overpopulation is the key to unhappiness. A good place to start would be the UK. In my lifetime practically all the areas I used to play in, the streams, fields etc have been built on. The views have been spoilt by industrial estates motorways and housing. Driving is a pain. There is litter everywhere. Go to Delhi and enjoy the crowds. Economic growth is not all it’s cracked up to be but that’s a different story. Just because Global warming may not be man made does not give us an excuse to trash the earth.

My teenage grandchildren were totally shocked when I told them that they were being brainwashed by ill-informed teachers. I suggested that they should evaluate the real evidence rather than accept unproven dogma. However, peer pressure prevented them from even raising any doubts, However, they told me that they won’t be supporting the brainwashed group: they had actually believed that there was now no ice at the North pole and most polar bears had been starved.

My daughter (15) asked for help with her homework relating to climate change and needed to list greenhouse gases. The list she found on the internet omitted water vapour so I explained the situation to her. She was somewhat surprised both that she had been unable to find water vapour listed herself and that her teacher (Geography!) had not mentioned it. A while later she showed me her “marked” homework listing of GGs which had water vapour deleted (in green ink – naturally). I contacted the teacher who tried to assure me that not only was water vapour not relevant, it was also not a gas. I referred the teacher to the Head of Science at the school who later contacted me and apologised for the “mix up”.
If the teachers are that poorly educated what hope do we have.
My daughter has no intention of “striking”.

      “…what hope do we have?”

      Frankly – none.

“Conversation is the exchange of correct opinions.” Mrs. General, in “Little Dorrit” by Charles Dickens.

And, for some mysterious reason, the belief that “Climate Change” is THE threat to us all has become a correct opinion.

I am absolutely certain that that green pen will be back at work, crossing out incorrect opinion, very soon. Trying to re-educate a half-educated person is as futile as writing on water.

This is also happening in Australia and the US: https://www.spectator.com.au/2019/02/gen-activist/

Oz Journalist Tony Thomas has spent a lot of time investigating the groups behind these propaganda strategies:

“March of the Climate Cult Kiddies”
    http://quadrant.org.au/opinion/doomed-planet/2015/05/attack-climate-cult-kiddies/
“The Australian Youth Climate Coalition is spawn of the US Energy Action Coalition (EAC) of 50 youth-led environmental groups. EAC is a prominent member of Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection. Anna Rose, after attending the UN Montreal climate fest in 2005, templated the AYCC’s first constitution on the EAC’s. In 2008, young UK activists set up their own coalition based on EAC and AYCC.”

    “U.S. Programs Global Warming Grants
U.S. Programs became engaged on the global warming issue about four years ago, at George Soros’s suggestion,” reads a leaked OSI (Soros’ Open Society Institute) memo. “There has been a budget of $11 million for global warming grants in the U.S. Programs budget for the last several years,” the memo reads. “This budget item captures George Soros’s commitment of $10 million per year for three years to Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection, which conducts public education on the climate issue in pursuit of creating political space for aggressive U.S. action in line with what scientists say is necessary to put our nation on a path to reducing its outsize carbon dioxide emissions.”

………the Gore co-founded Alliance for Climate Protection (ACP) was established in 2006 and lasted until it became The Climate Reality Project in July 2011.

Soros’ OSI also planned on giving millions of dollars to spur the “youth climate movement.”

“This budget item also allows for the renewal of U.S. Programs’ long-standing support of the Energy Action Coalition, which is the lead organizer of the youth climate movement in the U.S., the memo reads.”

Maybe these children teachers can explain why Hawaii has just had quite a snow fall —

    From http://strangesounds.org/2019/02/not-your-typical-maui-weather-first-time-snow-falls-in-a-hawaii-state-park-on-feb-9-2019.html
Titled Not your typical Maui weather: First time snow falls in a Hawaii State Park on Feb. 9, 2019

The Hawai‘i DLNR Division of State Parks reports that for perhaps the first time ever, snow has fallen in a Hawai‘i State Park on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019. Polipoli State Park on Maui is blanketed with snow. It could also be the lowest elevation snow ever recorded in the state. Polipoli is at 6200 feet elevation.

As long as any cAGW advocates touts weather effects as being caused by climate change™, and I know first hand that some teachers do. Then I feel justified in returning the compliment with any abnormal cold event as being a sign of global cooling.

I could not stop myself posting a comment on today’s Mailonline about this strike. Someone named PB kindly suggested that I was ignorant and represented just 1% of our population. Had to defend my self. Here it is:

From me: So many youngsters protesting about Nature. Climate has been changing for 3 billion years and the industrial age has made not the slightest difference. Mass skiving off school WILL make a difference! Strange behaviour but shouldn’t someone be assigned to review the school curriculum?

From Penitbias Comments like this will only confirm toothers how badly these protests are needed. Your uninformed opinion represents less than 1 per cent of the narrative in the UK – almost no-one agrees with you – and yet here you are, still proudly declaring how backwards you are on a website well known for dishonestly representing the reality of the climate (for profit). Thank you so much for your contribution to the cause, please never stop being so ignorant.

    From me:
Lets try a bit of this IGNORANCE PB:
When Nokolov and Zeller published their recent paper on the surface temperature of planets they got in before NASA to predict the temperature on Pluto. They are accurate on the Earth and on planets like Venus and Mars which have levels of CO2 above 95%. Some of their models included greenhouse gases but the successful models hade none. If Venus has 2000 times more CO2 than Earth and it has no effect on surface temperature the the Earth has a long, long way to go.
Lets ignore the recent work by Prof. Henrik Svensmark how cosmic rays from supernovas react with the sun to form clouds, which impact the climate on Earth.
And , of course, ignore our own Prof. Dobson who, 100 years ago connected atmospheric pressure to ozone concentrations in the lower stratosphere. (different pressures cause weather and average weather is climate!). Better not to carry my ignorance on!

Wife told me off saying ‘we may get bricks through the window’ but I blame Paul for giving me too much information!
