Let’s hope Rishi does not make another handbrake turn!

Rishi Sunak has ruled out paying billions in climate reparations to developing countries, as a row over money grows at the Cop27 summit.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said reparations were “not the right approach” and he would instead prioritise green investment that supports British jobs and businesses.

Mr Sunak said the UK was “fulfilling our obligations”, putting the country on course for a row with developing states during the negotiations.

Developing countries are calling for additional funds from richer polluting countries to help them pay for the impacts of climate change.

Labour has backed their calls, with Ed Miliband, the shadow climate secretary, saying the UK has a “historical responsibility” to pay out.

Mr Sunak said reparations are “not the same” as loss and damage, such as floods and typhoons, which is the pressing issue at the talks.

But the UK argues that it already provides sufficient funding to help countries recover from natural disasters and does not need to provide more.

The Government has ruled out extensions to the overseas aid budget to fund any additional money for loss and damage.

Maybe the idiot Miliband might like to tell us how many billions of taxpayer money he is going to give away, and which taxes he will raise to pay for it!

And while we’re at it, maybe he and Sunak might like to explain to quantify how much flood and typhoon damage has been caused by fossil fuels?

“…maybe he and Sunak might like to explain to quantify how much flood and typhoon damage has been caused by fossil fuels?”

Indeed! How can anyone separate out to quantify the extreme weather damages caused by the ENSO for example. It has no correlation with AGW CO2. Reparations based on speculations from climate models that cannot incorporate natural variability very well, if at all??? Absurd.

If only Sunak could show similar common sense regarding the Net Zero scam.

The increased CO2 levels have increased global crop ylelds in all countries. So they owe the UK for the increased food supply. How many lives have been saved from more food? How many more lives saved becasue of the increased transportation vis ship rail and truck that enabled rapid response to isolated crop failures.

The answer to all of the above is ‘I don’t know’.

Perhaps Sushi should spend more time worrying about the latest news from France that despite he and Macaroon now being the best of friends, the nuclear fleet is suffering problems with the ongoing repairs and won’t be at full strength this winter. That means they will have very little, if anything, to share.

Does this mean he’s not gonna buy the bridge I have for sale?
