Meet The Organisation Behind The Media’s Climate Hysteria

January 26, 2023

By Paul Homewood

In his Mail article this week, Ross Clark wrote about an outfit called Covering Climate Now (CCN):

This tougher tone in the media is partly down to an organisation called Covering Climate Now, an initiative by the Guardian and other outlets with Left-liberal leanings, to which some very high-profile news organisations, such as Bloomberg, Reuters, the Daily Mirror and Newsweek, have signed up.

It offers support to journalists to ‘forge a path towards an all-newsroom approach to climate reporting’. Its guidance includes: ‘Remember, an extreme weather story that doesn’t mention climate change is incomplete and potentially even inaccurate.’

For example, when reporting a hurricane, they were urged to add that ‘this comes at a time when human-caused climate change is consistently making storms more intense’.

So who are Covering Climate Now, who funds them and how do they operate?

This is how they describe themselves:

https://coveringclimatenow.org/about/

.

It is bad enough that this propaganda is being spread so widely across the global media. But their Guide about how to bring climate change into every story makes it clear that “facts” have very little to do with the endeavour:

.

There is no evidence whatsoever that climate change is supercharging anything, and the claptrap about communities of colour proves that this is purely a political spin operation. If CCN were really concerned with facts, they would spell out that poorer communities are much less vulnerable to weather events than they used to be because of economic development enabled by fossil fuels.

We have to look no further than the claim about hurricanes to know that the whole exercise is a fraud:

“This [hurricane] comes at a time when human-caused climate change is consistently making storms like it more intense.”

The IPCC however can find no evidence that this is the case, something which would be clear if what CCN say is true:

image

IPCC AR6

And NOAA are more explicit about Atlantic hurricanes, where there is more long term data available:

image

https://www.gfdl.noaa.gov/global-warming-and-hurricanes/

Which brings us to the question of who is funding this political campaign to brainwash the public?

It should come as no surprise to learn that the money comes from the usual load of far left, mostly American foundations, which we come across so often, like the Packards and Rockefellers.

image

https://coveringclimatenow.org/about/

The Park Foundation is an case in point. Their only real concern is for a “just, equitable and sustainable society”. As for being committed to an “independent media”, the last thing they want is that.

It is truly insidious that so much of our media seems to have sold out to this left wing agenda, and abandoned any commitment to actually checking the facts where climate is concerned. Remember that CCN say that Reuters, AFP and Bloomberg, who provide so much news content globally, are their partners.

I wonder who in these organisations originally agreed to giving up their editorial independence in this way?

FOOTNOTE

This whole story was brought to my attention by Neil Winton, who runs the Wintons World website. Neil was Reuters’ Science and Technology Correspondent in the 1990s, and as he says his reporting was always meticulously balanced, as Reuters then demanded.

His take on this scandal is here.

He has challenged Reuters to justify their abandonment of fact-based reporting through Reuters’ own in-house publication, The Baron, which keeps the retired informed of the latest news about the company. It will be interesting to see how Reuters respond.

Their approach is from the Goebbels school of communication:
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

They don’t necessarily have to lie. Just keep making alarmist assertions without proper supporting evidence, and throw in woolly phrases like ‘scientists say’ or ‘research suggests’ to impress the gullible.

      • January 27, 2023 7:59 am

Of course you’re absolutely correct. These are the things I call lying

I clicked on to it but it didn’t come up. It went to what I imagined was his home page. Can you check Paul please.

Why this conspiracy from these elite rich people, what is in it for them? What am I missing?

    • January 26, 2023 7:36 pm

Maybe it retains their position as the elite.

They will continue to drive/fly/ski/cruise – the poorer in society won’t.

Plus they get to feel good about it.

Control, power, the opportunity to abuse …
      And LOTS of it .
They already have money and lots of material objects.
      Maybe drugs also.

Control. People must do and think as they ought to do and think. It is a psychological necessity for some people.

Unfortunately the link has not been made to the WEF, the men of Davos and UN Agenda 30 for Sustainability. Its all one huge conspiracy to centalise control.

I think you are right, David. All these elite organisations are only open to those with one point of view. Their views must coincide with their fellow elitists, otherwise they become outcasts from their peers. That is the pressure that holds them together. Only a “renegade” like Trump would speak out and they are rare.

And that is why he had to go. The utter panic from the Left about Trump wasn’t about his supposed fascism or racism but about the fact he didn’t buy in to the narrative. As this story shows, numerous groups have worked very hard to get us to where we are and they are not going to allow their agenda to be derailed now.

      • January 27, 2023 11:30 am

That is also why they don’t like Vladimir Putin as he won’t submit to their World Fascism plan, as well as causing problems in the country favoured by the DemoTwats for laundering their money and the US for creating bio-labs.

This body seems to be a close relative of BAFTA Albert, ‘the home of environmental sustainability for film and TV . . . Your guide to PLANET PLACEMENT. . . creating world changing content. With guidance, inspiration and case studies to bring the planet into your programme’. The whole purpose of this outfit is encourage the insertion of climate and sustainability nudges into every kind of film and TV programme. They do of course advocate the same package of warble gloaming and thoughtless green dribble as CCN – all too predictable to be worth setting out.

I found it difficult to see where the money comes from but supporters include the BBC, ITN, ITV, Sky, Sony, Warner Bros, Netflix, BT Sport and UKTV. The body has panels dealing with different areas and unsurprisingly the BBC is on the one dealing with news.

I apologise if everyone knew all about this outfit anyway.

    • January 27, 2023 11:42 am

Yes, it comes up at the end of a lot of programmes and leaves you thinking ‘complete bollocks’. You can’t make films and tv programmes, or cover sport without using energy. Sky drivel on about ‘carbon neutral’ coverage where there are god knows how many people covering the match. But the key there is the ‘neutral’ bit which means it is just a paper con trick where they buy some indulgences to back up their claim. It is no more real than Shell telling me my electricity is 100% renewable while also showing in their paperwork how little is generated in the UK so it can’t possibly be, especially with everyone peddling the same lie.

” This hurricane comes at a time when human caused climate change is consistently making storms like it more intense ”

” Storms like Ian are more likely because of human caused climate change . Heat is the fuel that makes hurricanes big powerful and rainy ”
Then how might this climate alarmist version of Pravda explain why 2021 experienced the 2nd fewest strong hurricanes in the satellite era , 24 of 41 years in the Global Accumulated Cyclone Energy Index up to 2021 were lower than the 764 /765 4 decade average cusp. Furthermore , Australian tropical cyclone activity is lower than any time over the past 1500 – 500 years which can only mean cyclonic activity was more prolific than the current era during the Little Ice Age . The Australian BoM time series also shows severe cyclones have declined over the past 50 years.

The local newspaper (Tues/Wed/Thur/S&S) has all these “climate” stores. The comics, obituaries, and grocery ads are the only reason to subscribe. I don’t care about the local sports. I’m in central Washington State; rural.

Apologies. The second link was out of date.
A better example of how it snowed at Davos this year. Contrary to media spin,
e.g. Bloomberg trying to make out there was none due to a warming climate.

These are simply lies. We have had extreme weather before and so it is a lie to claim that every extreme weather event is caused or made worse by climate change. It is propaganda to plant the claim in every story. We are in desperate times.

I used to work for Reuters, though not as a journalist in the 80/90s, but they were then extremely careful about reporting just verifiable news and being independent from any bias, political or otherwise. What has happened to them is pretty depressing.

They know the anthropogenic catastrophic warming narrative is a scaffold of lies .and like all totalitarian ideologies throughout history it can only be maintained by censorship and intimidation

Well you cant say Covering Climate Now is inappropriately titled …..’Covering in the sense of obfuscation ….Picking up on John Hultquists comments I wonder if this outfit liases with local and regional newspapers
