World’s coral reefs not declining, new paper reveals

London, 8 February – A new paper published by the Global Warming Policy Foundation refutes alarmist claims about the state of the world’s coral reefs.
According to the author, eminent reef scientist Peter Ridd, the official data show no signs of any long-term trends in reef health. Indeed, the best records – for Australia’s Great Barrier Reef – suggest that coral cover is at record highs.
Dr Ridd said:
"The public are constantly told that reefs are being irreparably damaged by global warming, but bleaching events, about which there is so much doom-mongering, are simply corals’ natural response to changes in the environment. They are an extraordinarily adaptable lifeform, and bleaching events are almost always followed by rapid recovery."
Dr Ridd suggests that rather than being seen as under threat from climate change, corals should actually be recognised as one of the organisms least likely to suffer harm in a warming world.
"Corals get energy from a symbiotic relationship with various species of algae. When environmental conditions change, they can rapidly switch to a different species that is better suited to the new conditions. This shapeshifting means that most setbacks they suffer will be short-lived."
Dr Ridd says that the real risks to reefs come from overfishing and pollution.
The GWPF invited responses to this paper from authors likely to dissent from its conclusions. None of the authors who were contacted accepted this invitation.

Climate alarmists must be an endangered species in Australia, coral reefs doing fine, and heavy (but typical) rainfall in recent years has destroyed the fake narrative of “new normal” severe drought.

Well you would think so wouldn’t you?

But it is amazing how people hang on to their delusions especially those indoctrinated at school and university – mind you it is as Mark Twain said “man is born ignorant, but it takes 4 years at college to make him completely stupid”.

Reminds me of that chapel congregation in southern USA somewhere back in 2012 ish. The Pastor tells them that the world will end on a certain date and some abandoned worldly goods and waited to be lifted to heaven. When the date came and passed, the Pastor told them he had miscalculated (perhaps divided by zero perhaps) and it was a while yet – and they just believed him.

      Coral will be the same.

Another famous quotation that is apt:

“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so. “ – Mark Twain

though it appears that Twain never said it.

I doubt it, the supply of useful idiots keeps coming.

The actual sea surface temperatures along the length of the Great Barrier Reef reveal that there have been no temperatures above the long term average for any length of time that could affect the reefs.

It was certainly an omission from Ridd’s analysis – hardly a mention of temperature trends to accompany his reef health analysis. And that in a Global Warming PF publication series.

That’s probably because they continue to confuse sea surface temperatures down there with air temperatures. Ignoring overfishing, human pollution, tourism. The coral bleaching events do not correlate with sea surface temperatures or atmospheric CO2.

The late Dr.Robert Carter and Dr.Peter Ridd were both sacked by James Cook University idiots for saying the GBR was not dying.

” … for saying the GBR was not dying ”

Ian Gordon of the University said: “The issue has never been about Peter’s right to make statements – it’s about how he has continually broken a code of conduct that we would expect all our staff to stick to, to create a safe, respectful and professional workplace.”

Something like he didn’t win the congeniality award. 😒

        Or put another way,
“Here at James Cook our science is done on the basis of what will keep the funds rolling in and woe betide any of our staff who jeopardise those funds.
Nobody really gives a damn about the GBR but as long as saying ‘it’s dying’ is what keeps the faculty afloat then that’s what we’ll say.”

        Bob Carter was a Professor
Peter Ridd also held that title too, but maybe not when it all started

        “…respectful…”

When the electrical genius Oliver Heaviside was told that other members of the Royal Society were complaining that his forthright opinions were bringing the Society into disrepute he merely answered, “Delighted to hear it!”

For a while, “whistle-blowers” like Ridd were flavour of the month for our left-wing wreckers. Fashions change. Or to put it another way, “They don’t like it up ’em!”

        “…Twain never said it.”

Charles Farrar Browne (‘Artemus Ward’) said it, but it was not even original to him!

O/T a few days ago The Scottish/Mail Daily Record reported
to keep wind turbines from freezing up in the cold, you need to put electricity into them
but in 2 places the owner had resorted to using DIESEL generators
The worker said: “During December 60 turbines at Arecleoch and 11 at Glenn App were de-energised due to a cabling fault originating at Mark Hill wind farm. In order to get these turbines re-energised diesel generators were running for upwards of six hours a day.”
The whistle blower then reported on other oil spillages
    Breitbart reworded the story

Thank you, Mike Jackson “Nobody really gives a damn about the GBR but as long as saying ‘it’s dying’ is what keeps the faculty afloat then that’s what we’ll say.”
Yes – Another case where “follow the money.” leads to real reason why the dead-reef myth is being perpetuated. The Great Barrier Institute is on the JCU campus.
Well done Peter Ridd for having the courage to tell the truth (at a huge personal cost)
