New geological study proves that the green energy movement is impossible to achieve

February 19, 2023

The renewable energy fantasy goal is achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.  Carpet-bombing propaganda has convinced the public to accept the extravagant claim that technology currently exists to reach net zero carbon emissions.  Like carnival barkers, the net-zero fanatics say renewable energy is affordable, sustainable, scalable, and not an economy wrecker.

The goal is to create a first-generation green power grid relying on wind turbine farms, solar array farms, and power storage battery banks replacing fossil fuel and nuclear power plants.  In addition, the new power grid would power a global fleet of electric vehicles that would replace the internal combustion engine.

Western society has taken one hundred fifty years of progress to achieve a fantastically complex energy system using the dense source of cheap hydrocarbon energy, the master resource.  Yet the net zero devotees believe that the complex energy system can be dismantled with minimal disruption and replaced with a low-density renewable energy grid that is intermittent and non-scalable, in less than thirty years.

Well, I have horrible news for the devotees: the green energy fantasy collides with the laws of thermodynamics.  The Greenies never researched whether or not there are sufficient base and rare earth metals and adequate time to mine and build out the technologies to accomplish the net zero carbon 2050 target date.

It isn’t Ian, and what is more the “Powers that Be” freely admit it..

I’ve posted this before, but in case anyone missed it, here it is again:

“At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.
“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution
,” she said. Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

        This is the reality. ^^^^^^^^^

Endless talk about ‘carbon’ and Net Zero is just a gigantic diversion. While the world angrily debates a theory so absurd that it has been repeatedly shown to be abject nonsense the real reason for a new energy system remains largely unchallenged.

The reason is if the destruction of capitalism (ie economic Armageddon) was acknowledged as the true objective of the Net Zero campaign, then all hell would break loose.

Billions would realise the only means to deliver a significantly reduced economic footprint is to also significantly reduce the number of people contributing to the ‘unsustainable’ capitalist model.

Population reduction is unlikely to be a vote-winner at the ballot box!

Hence humanity IS being slowly gaslighted via a fraud so big it can only be described as global.

Regardless of who did or did not say it this statement is apt in this context. Many, especially many young people need to realise they are being lied too on a gigantic scale.
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
It is also the reason the government handed out money during the pandemic and again more recently, this winter.
By providing hand-outs towards rocketing heating bills.
This ruse is maintained by the main stream media, distractions and dismissing science in favour of modelling.
        Who are the deniers ?

Increasing solar and wind by 1 million units will make no difference when the wind is stilled and when the sun sets. At least solar is more reliable and always goes off when the sun sets, wind is just plain unreliable

    Paul,

If you sat down to design an energy system from scratch, you would choose fossil fuels ahead of renewable energy every time. If all things were equal, you wouldn’t replace a fossil fuel energy system with one driven by renewables. Even the Scottish government comes close to admitting that renewable energy systems are hugely problematic, while trying to pretend there are benefits, as is evident from a read of its onshore wind statement. Only a belief in a climate crisis, and a truly deluded belief that net zero (in a country which produces less than 0.1% of ongoing GHG emissions) can “deal with” such a crisis, could possibly “justify” such a catastrophic policy. Here’s my take on that:

    Blown Away

We had a system that was driven by renewables. Windmills scattered across the country milling grain amongst other things. Water powering factories. Even solar producing salt. Charcoal for smelting metals, which also proved that trees have difficulty keeping up with industry. Horses for transport, farming and mining. Clothes made from Hodden Grey, 100% natural. I don’t think it came close to Utopia
Fortunately for mankind much more reliable and powerrful sources of energy were found which 150+ years later is still the most beneficial for mankind

Lately we have been importing over 20% of our electricity, 12% from France. A recent article at TCW detailed the coal fired power stations closed or blown up since 2012: https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/powering-down-britain/

The total is over 20GW from 12 plant. Wiki says “By 2023, the UK had over 11 thousand wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 28 gigawatts (GW): 14 GW onshore and 14 GW offshore”.

At times their output has been below 1%,but we get headlines when “a record” is reached, lasting perhaps half an hour.

    Crazy.

Industrial demand for electricity in the UK has declined by 20% since 2000 but because of unreliables generation has increased by over 20GW to meet a significantly lower total demand. And now we are adding 40GW of unreliable offshore wind as well!

The lack of the metals to implement Net Zero has been flagged for some time and the Government, or at least the Civil Service, has know about it for at least 3 years. A report was commissioned by them and told them the uncomfortable truth in 2019. Whether it got past the CS to Government is open to debate.

The other uncomfortable truth is the lack of Grid capacity but has now made it too MSM via the Telegraph

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/02/18/electricity-grid-delays-sink-plans-new-fuel-cell-development/

Basically it is saying that permission for additional electricity capacity is being held up for over 7 years, depending on area, because the Grid couldn’t cope in it’s present form. We have discussed this here before but now MSM has got hold of it. Government cannot be ignorant of the situation as the NG works in close co-operation with them.

I wonder how California is getting on in this context.

The i newspaper carried a report 31/12/22 which quoted a renewable energy developer Dr Andrew Crossland who said
“Although the planning will let you build the solar farm or wind farm and the landowner wants you to do it, you just physically can’t connect it to the grid for sometimes 15 years.”

They also reported that Solar Energy UK, which represents the sector found that £1.6 billion of solar investment was blocked due to grid delays

All this merely spells out the bleeding obvious, of course. But because people (90% of the super-trendy ‘intelligentsia,’ that is) are so reluctant to have their indignant emotional venting exposed as childish nonsense, they will deliberately ignore practical reality until the death – metaphorically and actually.

The opinion leaders that count are all from the ‘Arts Side.’ However, they do actually worship Science – as a sort of Panacea or system of Magic. They believe that they can always hire a few Scientists to ‘make it so.’

No detailed geological analysis is needed to show that the transition to renewables and electric transportation will require conventional vehicles that run on the fossil fuels that have made all of our lives so much better.

    • February 19, 2023 9:44 pm

There won’t be “a transition” … it’s like the “transition to personalise flying cars”or “teleporters” or a host of other ridiculous ideas previous generations dreamt up. The enthusism lasts just as long as any serious assessment.

Thanks, Chris. Reading it I came on this sentence: “Drax, which used to burn coal in its Yorkshire power stations, has switched most of them to wood — and as wood is “renewable”, it attracts subsidies.” – which got me thinking. Surely, by this definition, coal – which is fossilised wood – is also a renewable. In the case of Drax, their wood takes a generation or so to be renewed; in coal, it takes a few millennia. But it’s still renewed. Drax’s ‘biomass’ used to be wood; as did coal.

I also see from the piece that Kwarteng could easily be accused of shorting Drax: at a meeting of MPs he said he agreed that it was wrong to burn wood at Drax and that he would put a stop to it. When his words were leaked to the press the shares dived. When Kwarteng subsequently rowed back on his comments and said he backed Drax the shares recovered. I just winder who made a killing from it….

Entire satellite record shows near zero trend, which is why alarmists rarely mention Antarctic sea ice, there is no alarming decline, and no evidence of warming over the continent as a whole, although the west may be warming it’s more than offset elsewhere. So inconveniently, no sign of the polar amplification that is supposed to afflict both poles. This year 1.91 v 1.92 mkm2, may drop a fraction more.

  23. February 20, 2023 12:44 pm

The planet couldn’t care less about aeroplanes and ships because they are not a threat to the planet. The planet isn’t making any more Carbon, Oxygen or Hydrogen. – or any other element for that matter. The fact that green zealots wish to make aeroplanes and ships (and eating meat, ffs!) an existential threat just demonstrates that the greenies have no clue about science and/or the climate.

There is no mechanism whereby increasing so-called ‘greenhouse gasses’ can cause any significant, or even measurable, change to the Climate. The entire scam is an agenda-driven fraud of huge proportions. There is demonstrably NO Climate Crisis. There is no radiative Greenhouse Effect because – guess what? – the atmosphere does not behave like a greenhouse! But somebody thought that it would make a brill soundbite and look where we are now!

Scientists have prostrated themselves at the Court of hubris, greed and 5 minutes of media fame. A-lister luvvies just want more ‘look at me’ time from the Media and politicians have gleefully joined in the dogma because they can see how easy it will be to manipulate the proletariat. George Orwell eat your heart out. The politico-scientific elite can change the past and therefore control the future. Forget empirical evidence; they’ll just ignore it and make the jigsaw pieces fit using a hammer.

H.L. Mencken was bang on when he wrote: ‘The whole aim pf practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by manacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.’

The CO2 => Climate Crisis meme is the greatest hobgoblin of them all and Net Zero is just the latest manipulation!
