These plane thingies come in handy, don’t they Greta!

A British yacht skipper’s flight to the US to help Greta Thunberg sail to Portugal has produced the same amount of carbon emissions the voyage hoped to save.

Nikki Henderson, 26, flew to the US from Britain to sail 48-foot catamaran the La Vagabonde.

The vessel is carrying Miss Thunberg and her father Svante 3,000 miles to Portugal where she will go onto attend the COP 25 climate change talks in Madrid.

The journey was meant to save approximately two or three tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

But Ms Henderson’s flight from Britain to the US likely produced the same amount of emissions the journey hoped to save, countering Ms Thunberg’s mission, The Times reports.

Ms Henderson was a skipper in three ARC Trans Atlantic races. In two of them, she was the youngest competitor.

She also skippered the Caribbean 600 and has raced in three Caribbean seasons.

Ms Henderson tweeted: ‘I decided to help @Sailing_LaVaga and support Greta because she is changing the world – simply by standing up for what she believes is right and staying true to her values.

‘I so admire that, and hope to draw strength from her.’

The 16-year-old climate activist, who became world famous for founding the ‘school strikes for the climate,’ refuses to fly in planes because of the carbon footprint.

The ship, belonging to Australian YouTubers Riley Whitelum and Elayna Carausu, left from Hampton, Virginia, last month.

The couple also have their son Lenny onboard.

It aims to reach Portugal, more than 5,500 kilometers (about 3,500 miles) away. From there Ms Thunberg will make her way to Madrid in Spain for COP 25.

The Australian couple offered to sail Miss Thunberg to Spain after she had issued a plea on social media for help getting back across the Atlantic Ocean, after the summit was moved at the last minute from Santiago in Chile to Madrid due to the protests in the South American country.

What a load of nauseating virtue-signalling!
    Pass the sick-bag please….

Indeed. ‘The journey was meant to save approximately two or three tons of carbon dioxide emissions.’ Even if true – so what?

The stench of hypocracy pervades the whole climate change hysteria. When will it ever end? Will these morons ever come to their senses?

They’ve had quite a lively trip so far and are currently less than a hundred miles off the NW coast of Spain. Trouble is, they have strongish NE headwinds and have had to turn south, now off the Portuguese coast and facing the dreaded Nortada winds. Catamarans don’t sail very well to windward and it’ll be interesting to see if they somehow manage to continue to “sail” to Spain!

Maybe they were going to fly out to get their boat anyway, in which case no extra emissions can be chalked up to Greta this time. Poor girl, I can’t see her having a soft landing when the whole tissue of lies collapses.

If it hasn’t collapsed by now, when will it? The more imbedded the fantasy the more difficult it will be for any of the brainwashed to admit they were wrong. Society as we know it will probably self destruct first…..

    • December 2, 2019 1:31 pm

I gather she only flew out because the boat’s owners were not competent enough to sail across the Atalntic in dodgy weather

The thing that struck me! is you get a “FREE WINTER CAR CHECK” why? the world is warming so fast it will never be winter again.

Somebody turns up to see if your car is still there under the snow or if it has been stolen by polar bears perhaps?

Perhaps if she didn’t truant so often she’d learn elementary maths, and so wouldn’t make an ass of herself quite so often.

NTZ reported that a Green Party member celebrated the EU’s declaration of a climate stitch-up with a jet flight. Green diktats are for the many, not the few!

Guess the number out of the 29,000 expected attendees who won’t fly to COP25?

Amazing. All the energy needing to be consumed for no real reason.

And all the planning wasted because it had to be moved to Madrid because of protests in Chile. The protests started out initially as a protest against the raise in subway fares resulting from increased usage of the system requiring more energy and related costs.

Somehow, you just can’t get around having to live in the real world where there are consequences for every choice that is made.

Hi Paul – I’ve been ploughing along vs. bird-choppers and sun-traps for years, and you might be interested in cherry-picking from the beginnings of a book – I’ve written over 50, all non-fiction. I attach the jottings, and a list of my books so you know I’m not some nutter – who sadly seem to make up 99% of political decision-makers. Cheers, Terry Breverton PS as I trundle along, I’ll forward anything I might think relevant to your wonderful efforts. With the 3 Milancovic Wobbles, only one is in favour of glaciation, which explains some of the current idiocy.

If Thunberg had any principles she would reject the help. But I am sure she’ll find an excuse, like all righteous greens, to justify the action, just like the green MP in Germany who caught a plane from Frankfurt to Berlin because he was short of time.

I didn’t think it was actually possible for someone to be that stupid.

Greta doesn’t seem to understand that the plane flew anyway, whether sje was on-board or not. And there’s no reason to believe her “seat”was empty, so the saving was zero.

In any event why did she need to go at all? What does she add? Yiu have to have a severe case of self-importance to think you have to attend these things.

3rd October 2019, FAMILY VALUES Greta Thunberg’s parents – who are the climate activist’s family and what have they said?

CLIMATE change activist Greta Thunberg is now a familiar face known around the world. But while the teenager has hit the headlines who are her parents and what are their beliefs?

The general rule of thumb is 1/4 pound CO2 per seat per mile
Thus would indicate about 750 pounds for that seat or less
This could be easily offset by buying a carbon offset for about 2$
The carbon footprint figures you use are wrong
Either intentionally or because you are ignorant

    • December 3, 2019 9:15 am

The figures come from the Daily Mail, and I have no interest whether it is two tonnes or two hundred tonnes. It is about the hypocrisy involved

Nobody gives a toss for virtue signalling carbon offsets, which of course silly little Greta could have bought anyway

But they not really care about the figures either.

The Malizia 2 has a huge embodied emissions cost, 10,000 miles in an electric car mostly run off coal and gas grids and now, sailing at 8 knots into headwinds (meaning diesel use, which ran out), all lead to a very carbon intensive, “carbon free” trip.

On this website dated 26April 2016 is the massive Complaint (c 128 pages) sent to the BBC DG. True today as then. But Chapter 8 is devoted entirely to
the lies (no, sorry) unscientific statements by Attenboro. Nothing changes. The BBC should be condemned for wrecking the reputation of a family hearthside idol.
