“Eco-Distress” Is A Meaningful Response To Climate Emergency, Say Psychiatrists

More nonsense from the Telegraph’s Olivia Rudgard!

It really is shameful for the Royal College of Psychiatrists to lend its name to this drivel.

First of all, they are deliberately conflating WEATHER EVENTS with CLIMATE CHANGE.

And anybody who has this “eco distress” clearly is mentally ill, and should be treated accordingly, instead of being pandered to. In simple terms, they are suffering from paranoia:

The reality is that people suffered far more in the past from events such as floods and storms. Yet they got on with their life without complaining about eco distress.

The mental health problems the College is now identifying are in fact a product of modern society. As people grow more wealthy and have fewer real issues to worry about, their minds turn to imaginary problems. Simply feeding these delusions serves to aggravate the problem.

I suspect that most psychiatrists will be horrified by this report. As with many other such organisations, this climate policy has been imposed by a small clique with its own political agenda.

As for the nonsense about mental health problems increasing in summer, have not they heard of seasonal affective disorder (SAD)?

One final comment- why is the Telegraph employing Olivia Rudgard, if she has not got the gumption to question any of this foolishness?

If there is a basis for any form of mental stress it is that caused by the alarmist nature of the tripe being promoted by the green lobby and (sad to say) endorsed wholeheartedly by the Johnson government.

Correct. It is media and politically induced hysteria based on what tangible evidence exactly? NONE!

The good news is it only infects the weak-minded, such as Guardian readers (in USA Democrat voters). With luck this paranoia will lead to the inflicted euthenising themselves – to save the planet!

So people are living through a pandemic, have been in lockdown for months on end, cannot meet their families or go on holiday, face losing their jobs or their business failing and the main thing that they are worried about is Eco-distress which sounds completely like a non-existent made up illness. The madness goes on and on. But of course, just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean to say that they are not all out to get you (sorry – couldn’t resist it).

And in a similar vein: Neurotics build castles in the air, Psychotics live in them and Psychiatrists collect the rent

The aim of those who want to control is to frighten and unsettle people w/ the crisis “de jour”. Make them a non-stop, daily onslaught.

Was the article about the concern for people or bragging about their success?

As I have mentioned before on here she does not know her subject. Its all down to the editor Chris Evans.

I wouldn’t say ‘sufferers of eco-distress’ are initially paranoid or mentally ill, they are just responding in an understandable way to the relentless barrage of climate propaganda.

If not resolved, deprogrammed by being exposed to the truth, people could certainly subsequently become mentally ill, depressed, suicidal etc.

It just shows how corrupt and uncaring the promoters of the climate scam really are.

Worst and most disgusting of all is that this nonsense is being used to deliberately frighten children because they are seen as a powerful tool to use to blackmail otherwise reluctant adults whose natural instinct is of course to protect children. That is child abuse!

This speaks volumes about those manipulating this left wing embraced non problem which is no different from the other none problems they make vexatious stirrings around. They all speak about caring for this and caring for that but they do not care who or what gets hurt in the name of their politically driven religion.

This is far from the first time this has been done in history. What is shocking is that we have not learned those lessons of history.

And then the likes of Attenbollox think it is great, amazing etc. that the children are leading the way, as if a child could be wiser than an adult or know much beyond the indoctrination that they have received.

Yep. Was listening to the results on R4 this morning and thought it perfectly framed the nutters of the Green group (difficult to take them seriously as a party) when their vote wasn’t much more than the guy from the Monster Raving Loonies.

My late father, a doctor often repeated that giving the title doctor to psychiatrists was the blackest day for the UK medical profession.

    • May 7, 2021 1:56 pm

I omitted to quote from the piece:

“Dr Lisa Page, associate registrar for sustainability at the college” What on earth does that job title mean?

What exactly is she in the business of “sustaining”? Can it be that she is in the business of “sustaining” mental health problems?

The world has gone mad led by this lot!

I had a quick peak at the Royal College of Psychiatrists website which proudly boasts of their declaration of a climate emergency and is full of the usual nonsensical claims. The President, Dr Adrian James, states that, ‘The disruption to life posed by the climate and ecological emergencies presents an unprecedented threat to our health in the UK and worldwide’.

Clearly, Dr James is not on familiar terms with the definition of the word ‘unprecedented’ which used to mean ‘never done or known before’. I would suggest that there was a tad more ‘disruption to life’ occurring during the Black Death, the Great Plagues, multiple historic flu pandemics (including the current one) and cholera, smallpox and sweating sickness epidemics etc etc not to mention centuries of bloody warfare than anything humble climate change can serve up. Is it any wonder that so many individuals are going out with the fairies when the leaders of our, once great and highly respected, professional societies are leading them there?

Eco-distress AKA terminal stupidity! People cannot think for themselves, they believe any drivel that they are told to believe. I was brought up as were my children to question everything we were told. Sadly this no longer happens, because the world is full of ‘experts’ who tell us what we should do and think!

The way the DT has rapidly descended, one could extend that to pretty much their entire journalistic (I use the term loosely) staff across all topics.

Lifestyle changes to keep the world from warming up
      MAY 6, 2021

Scientists widely agree that we must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius to avoid catastrophic climate impacts. Environmental scientist Laura Scherer investigates how we should change lifestyles to achieve this temperature goal. Her research is part of the 4.8-million-euro Horizon 2020 project EU 1.5° Lifestyles.

Would it bother the Royal College of Psychiatrists to show some concern about the scaring of the children?

Even people not directly affected by the effects of climate change, such as flooding or displacement, can suffer emotions caused by knowledge about extreme weather elsewhere, the Royal College said. “Witnessing such climatic events has been tied to a range of emotions …”
The piece written by the climate idiots at the Royal College, and is just trying to show that in today’s market of outrage and hype, they are still relevant. The Royal College is not, it is an irrelevance! They show NO evidence of climate and ecological emergencies; modern climate change and biodiversity loss are well within norms.

Dr. Lisa Page, associate registrar for sustainability at the college said “The knock-on effects of climate change and biodiversity loss will be felt on people’s mental health”
This author, Olivia Rudgard, does not investigate either the paper’s ‘climate and ecological emergencies’ claim, or the veracity of Dr. Lisa Page’s claims of ‘climate change and biodiversity loss’ but instead reports and emphasizes some emotional states people can get into. Overemotional states caused by believing lies. Essentially this ridiculous reports tries hard to insinuate that it is normal to suffer emotionally from eco-distress ← NO IT IS NOT!
This Royal College totally misunderstands that all these hyped-up eco-climate dystopian reports and published opinions is nothing but sophistry and hype. They’re designed to keep too many people over-stressed, fearful, and allow government to easily control the majority of their population. And for the susceptible in means that they can get into a very emotional state — keep these people away from the hyped-up reports and opinions and they will get better.

The Royal College should also take notice of the fact that what they are advocating wi mean people of THIS country – a FIRST WORLD country – dying of cold and hunger because these fools want to tamper with the weather and change the climate (in other words they want the suffering to last 30 or more years to qualify as real climate change).
Real Doctors know that cold kills and warmth is beneficial.

The whole political sphere are at it, lets keep lowering the voting age until we’ve brainwashed all, in good old Scotland they now rewrite history in schools to suit the ‘Sturgeon’ agenda, airbrushing out the fact that it was King James who instigated the act of union idea. Mind you a solar panel sales chappie tried to convince me here in N Wales that putting them on my NE facing roof was an ideal location. Aaaaargh!

Paul’s Notalotofpeopleknowthat blog gets high praise from this young American in a letter to Judith Curry. It has to be recognised that this website does far more to alleviate eco-anxiety than any corrupted bunch of useless psychiatrists.

It’s ironic that someone else has to do their job for them!
