Paul, maybe you should explain who Looby Loo is to you younger readers!
Looby Loo
A good likeness !!
Love the way she was wearing lots of oil products
I watched that.
these people have NO rational argument whatsoever and what ever one thinks of JRM he did a fine job against the diatribe.
No he did not. He never challenged a single point the hysterical girl child was making he merely defended on the grounds that the technology isn’t ready yet. A kind of grovelling apology.
“I’m not a scientist”…
Thank you for confirming that you have nothing to say that I want to hear.
“Renewables which are nine times cheaper than fossil fuels” where does she get that from? Last time I looked the residential electricity price in the UK was the third most expensive on the planet with fossil fuel rich countries having the least expensive.Iran is 47X cheaper than the UK.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/263492/electricity-prices-in-selected-countries/
Its the one day price difference that has since been reversed. Milliband spouted that nonsense in the HoC. It is, of course, bollocks. Any rational person will know Phoebe is an empty word repeater, but there are those who believe the claim is true.
When the lights go out it will be a different story.
I think that, unfortunately, we will need the lights to go out before our politicians will be forced to accept the lunacy of their energy policies.
Thinking Scientist,
the very worrying thing is that Mr millliband is in government and worse there may be a labour government from the next election.
People in power who are ignorant make dreadful policy decisions.
Mind you w ehave had it for twenty years or so in energy policy.
It’s not even the one day price difference. It is the ratio between a CfD price and a one day gas price. Of course, none of the renewable energy companies are honouring their CfD agreements but are tracking the gas price instead and making obscene profits.
Paul Dennis, you are quite correct. I wrote in haste and then after I posted thought I should have been more accurate – edit facility here would be great!
“When the lights go out it will be a different story.”
Therein lies the rub. It would be very simple to force the “lights out” and throw the country in complete chaos. A modest number of people acting (unpredicted) in unison performing perfectly legal actions could collapse the electricity grid relatively easily.
The problem is, would they just be seen as a terrorist group and blame be deflected away from the real green culprits?
The “Nine times cheaper” quote came from a group called Carbon Brief, funded by the European Climate Foundation. It is easily debunked but most politicians could not be bothered to check the sources.
It’s the CfD bids that were not taken up at that price versus the top of the spike of the gas price. So a fantasy but now enshrined as “fact”.
The question to ask is therefore: if we have 100% renewables, will our bills be one-ninth of what they were in say 2010? That would make them around £150/year.
‘Just stop oil’ and everything grinds to a halt in short order, resulting in utter chaos. Where’s the benefit in that?
Wether it be Insulate Britain, Extinction Rebellion or Just Stop Oil it depends on the agenda. Why are so many of this class science illiterate ? Because they are picked by their masters for exactly this reason.
The real agenda of the funders to this movement are the likes of George Soros. Clever billionaires that aim to bring society as we know it here in the west to its knees. There are multiple attacks.
What else is there when you process so much wealth ?
Another example reared it’s head around 2014 :-
“Jennifer Bilek | Who is Behind the TRANS AGENDA?”
+1000.
The west is under a sustained cultural attack. Everything that has contributed to western development is a target.
All our laws, regulations, guidelines, social mores, pursuits, everything.
It’s not by accident our borders are being traduced while our leaders voluntarily wreck our economy and social stability via Net Zero.
Activism is ruining the West right now, hidden in plain sight.
They are all the same people. Literally. A big company i know well that was suffering from repeated invasions of these people got intelligence from both the police and private firms. All one group with different names as appropriate and to make it seem as if there are lots of groups and lots of people. They are well-trained and funded, but the backing is a bit shadowy. Deeply undemocratic, fundamentally revolutionary Socialist, they want to come across as just concerned citizens but they are not.
The poor girl has been fed a diet of Climate propaganda so she doth not know any better – let a holy entity forgive her. The incessant propaganda, and equally
important, the non reporting of real science by the Beeb in particular and the MSM together with the eco-terrorists organizations, disguised as concerned charities, is leading to despair of young and immature brains of many.
Sadly you are right
I think that, unfortunately, we will need the lights to go out before our politicians will be forced to accept the lunacy of their energy policies.
A good blackout would do the trick. An orchestrated exercise, when the connectors are under pressure, with everyone switching on every light and electrical device at a peak hour would create havoc and just show the politicians how fragile the grid is and how stupid Net Zero is.
“The poor girl” I understand your meaning of the word “poor” in terms of her poor mental state, but it is worth pointing out she went to a £30,000 per annum private school!
I have commented extensively about the issue of “taking down the grid” before and I am still trying to complete a novel about the subject.
Actually the “best time” to attack the grid by a sudden unpredicted demand surge is when it is on relatively low demand but with a very high proportion of asynchronous, low inertia generation active i.e. solar and wind. These were exactly the conditions of the August 2019 partial blackout. A key factor is Reactive Power, if the balance between real and reactive power is wrong then electricity effectively stops “flowing”. With a low inertia grid and low demand the effect can be dramatically quick (milliseconds) but a high demand grid with lots of CCGT running is very resilient. On one occasion both Sizewell B and Longannet tripped out within seconds of each other (a colossal loss of power) but the system very nearly held up.
For anyone not familiar with the issue of this “Phantom” power, here are good explainers
https://www.techopedia.com/definition/15008/reactive-power#:~:text=26%20January%2C%202021-,What%20Does%20Reactive%20Power%20Mean%3F,in%20an%20alternating%20current%20scenario.
Or this from Drax
https://www.drax.com/power-generation/silent-force-moves-electricity/
The problem with this course of action is that the perpetrators can be readily attributed the blame to deflect from the real problems with the grid.
To get around this, anonymity is the key which is difficult given the number of people inevitably involved.
She seemed to be shouting that people are dying from extreme heat because they can’t afford to heat their homes.
Or something.
Hi
I never knew what “climate derangement” was until I heard this looney.
Priceless
It beggars belief that abject morons like this ignorant 21 year old justify air time anywhere!
More airtime for these morons please.
The more exposure the better, on the BBC, C4, everywhere. Nothing could undermine extreme climate activism faster than giving these fools more oxygen.
And Mogg handled it very well.
She’s just a slightly more extreme version of Justin Rowlatt.
Oh, but they do, Paul, because not a few of her fellow 21-year-olds are going to look at that and think, “WTF!!”
This was a classic example of dialogue of the deaf, at least on one side. Life is full of shouty 21-year-olds with purple hair; it’s just that they have never been as exploited by their ‘elders and betters’ with an agenda as they are today.
Rees-Mogg said nothing controversial in the clip I watched. He took no particular stance on climate; all he said was you can’t just shut off everything until you have something to replace it with. I would have thought even a non-scientific 21-year-old would grasp that.
The “nine times cheaper” canard, incidentally, is going to continue for as long as the chaotic and frankly dishonest method of sourcing electricity is allowed to continue. At the moment it appears to be a sophisticated version of the three-card trick or possibly the Humpty-Dumpty approach — when I sign a contract it means what I want to mean, neither more nor less!
Completely and utterly barking mad. Well done to JRM for exposing the complete lack of reasoning and basic intelligence in their “argument”. The more exposure you give these idiots in this kind on interview the more stupid they look.
I actually feel rather sorry for her. The fact that she couldn’t utter even one rational statement was utterly pitiable. I don’t imagine she’ll ever watch the broadcast and I realise my goodness I really made a fool.of myself. I suppose all her mates will tell her she was wonderful and she’ll believe it and just keep on going.
Dunning Kruger in action.
DGJ: Don’t believe it. She was on Politics live the next day spouting the same gibberish and not one of the panel, nor the host, challenged her claims. She is a member of a well organised, well financed and extremely dangerous anarchic movement funded by whom?
JRM was very patient. I think it would have been better to have absolutely and mercilessly ridiculed her beliefs and the outright lies she told. They deserve to be mocked for the jokes they are.
I agree and I wish he would have asked her if she knew how many parts per million of man made carbon dioxide was in the atmosphere. I would have loved to have seen her face, but she would have said, … ‘I am not a scientist’.
Quite frankly I am not a scientist, I know know no science, electricity comes from fairy dust, and I am, quite frankly, a looney.
I’m an electrical engineer with a science background and I think, considering quantum mechanics, electricity could very well come from fairy dust. I haven’t heard a better explanation.
According to the Scottish Mail on Sunday, Phoebe Plummer, the very brainwashed young women in this video, «went to a £45,000-a-year school attended by the Royal Family.»
She then «went on to £30,000-a-year Mander Portman Woodward college in Kensington, London, named ‘spoilt brat central’ by Vice magazine in 2006.»
A lot of money very well spent, obviously. 😉

That is very interesting. Time, money, idle bourgeoisie. Rudderless and not very bright but, hey, I have a purpose in life now. I am part of an uprising and we are saving the planet.
My Cocker Spaniel is more intelligent.
The last Just Stop Oil spokesperson saw the light, recanted and has now joined with Michael Shellenberger. He certainly has a brain and can think.
The article also says she’s studying Computer Science at Manchester University which suggests she has some academic ability she did a great job of hiding.
And yet she cannot do a five minute Google search to check her sources or give anything approaching a rational answer.
” Jacob you have six children ..do you not care about their future “…….”People are dying are you hearing me ” ?
Posh brainwashed Phoebe Plummer is another pedophrasty moral blackmailer like Just Stop Oil’s whimpering Laura Norton – flicking the switch to Appeal to Emotion when confronted with a serious question …..The thespian posturing and ranting is nauseating ….Why did Jacob not cite the EM DAT climate related fatalities database or the annually updated United Nations FAO world cereal crop yields chart showing rising agricultural surpluses since 2008? .[ Why are they never displayed on television by the otherwise excellent Julia Hartley Brewer or GB News hosts when interviewing these eco – millenarians ?] ….Well Phoebe would just crack a condescending smile , shake her head , talk over her patient and polite host and move the goalposts to another impending doom diatribe….Facts mean nothing to them
“Of course you don’t relate to the ordinary people – you’re a millionaire ” ….Oh please ..Multi millionaires such as the Getty heirs bankroll these bored bourgeoisie cults such as Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion ……Jacob should have pushed back with this reminder …… Why did Phoebe frantically cite the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres after recusing herself as “not a scientist ” ? He isn’t either ….. 50 years of consistently failed climate catastrophe predictions and a 10% decline in extreme weather disasters worldwide this century tell us we are not on a ‘highway to climate hell “
Why doesn’t Jacob get together with his Conservative friends and reverse our government’s ridiculous policies?
Because he can’t. I suspect less than a quarter of Conservative MPs are climate sceptics and probably half of those have to keep it quiet.
Contrast with Labour where I suspect climate sceptics probably numerous just 1 or 2.
Something to do with snouts and troughs perhaps?
Slightly off topic, but all those headlines about saving doctors pension was bollxxx. More to do with saving the pensions of those soon to be retired MPs. Snouts and troughs indeed.
Still further off topic, I agree 100%, the LTA did not, ever, in and of itself reduce anyone’s pension – it only reduced the increase in the “accrual” by limiting the gross increase to a specific level dictated by gross taxable income. Any suggestion that this induced salaried 40%/45% rate taxpayers is utter garbage; for those individuals able to retire “early”, which is cited in some quarters as a direct consequence the limitation of “accrual”, a very difficult question they, their advisers and most importantly their so called “professional bodies”, have to answer is – “Exactly what was the percentage reduction suffered by the member by taking his/her pension early?” – and watch “them” squirm. Percentage reductions vary scheme to scheme and unless these members were offered a “deal” – very problematical for the remaining members – reductions of 1% – 4% per annum of pensionable service ( just think about that for a second…) are routinely the case. So, a medic with 20 years qualifying service might be staring at a 20% reduction for retiring early – and that is something you do not see mentioned in any MSM article or from the likes of the BMJ.
It’s cruel to call her a nutter, she’s a victim of relentless propaganda/grooming, clearly vulnerable and gullible.
Just like Thunberg
Child abuse, by sociopaths.
“It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so.”
― Ronald Reagan
From the great “A time for choosing” speech.
Extreme eco loons like her are actually doing a much better job than we climate change deniers in persuading “the man on the Clapham omnibus” that all this global warming is a scam. It helps to have an intellectual like JRM at the helm to contrast with her wild rants. Her soup throwing over van Goghs Sunflowers caused so much negative reaction, that groups like XR have toned down their campaigns.
I wonder if she knows or gives a toss how the dyes she used were made – could they possibly come from petrochemical by products? If so does she have a brain cell capable of recognising the irony?
The dye seeps into their brains, scientific fact.
Too intense to be a traditional vegetables / plant based dye I’d say. Not that I’m an expert on dyes
Miss Pink hair needs to read the list of stuff made from oil and gas. It’s not just about electricity which can be generated from wind turbines and solar but the only benefit of that is that less gas is burnt. Wait until she or a loved one is in an ICU without plastic products. Oh dear thats a death caused by NO oil / gas products. Unfortunately, all political parties (except reform) believe in St Greta, Sir David and Miss Pink Hair.
For me, the most illuminating part was near the end when JRM asked her why she didn’t stand for election and get her views argued in a poll. She said, ‘I haven’t the time to spend on elections, we need to do these things now’.
‘Ahh’, says JRM, ‘you want to be a dictator’.
It went straight over her air-head.
I managed about 65 seconds before becoming unconscious, though admitting she isn’t a Scientist is more than most Green Activists do, but it does explain a lot.
But is she a Blue or Purple Activist? Surely, some mistake.
As has been said, without Oil, Windmills will seize up without their lubrication, so it’s got to be Solar! 🙂
An uninformed person watching this would think she won. They’ll have heard and believed every inverted truth she spouted and not even listened to what they would see as the out of touch Tory snob interviewing her.
Jason: Exactly.
It seems “I’m not a scientist” will solve all these problems of when the wind doesn’t blow or lack of sun at night. Has Phoebe realised that the pink hair dye she buys at the local supermarket is transported there by a diesel truck?
What is the true cost of renewables when the subsidies are added to the MWh price and that of gas and coal if carbon taxes were removed?
The key observation to take away from this interview is how pleased Ms Plummer is with herself. Vain, barely educated, proud of the fact that she is STEM-illiterate, she extrudes a meaningless fog of counter-factual verbiage that obscures the reality: she is incapable of logical thought processes.
I lasted about a third of the way through. I’ll try again in the morning in the hope that I have misjudged her and she makes a better case later in the interview.
JRM mentions the promise of genetic engineering. May I put in a plea that priority be given to improving the availability of iron in vegetarian food? Meat eaters get iron from the haem molecule which is also found in small amounts in the root nodules of leguminous plants, so it should be comparatively simple to boost it in beans.
But I’m not a scientist.
JF
I stopped watching several times; she’s impossibly annoying! I couldn’t make it through to the end though.
Good luck!
Typical behaviour of a person who can only quote platitudes and has no supporting evidence so speaks louder and louder as if magnitude of voice makes the argument.
She was “educated” at St Marys independent boarding school in Ascot (so not short of a penny herself). A really outstanding example of the ordinary people she accuses Rees-Mogg of not knowing anything about. The delusion hurts.
We need more people like the 21 year old spouting their nonsense, in order to show everyone else that they are brainwashed nutters.
I was struck by her defensive ranting and interruptions. If she had a strong case she could have deployed it in a calm and rational manner. WRM let her get away with too much. – all that global death when weather related death has fallen 95% since 1920 while crop yields break records year on year (except cassava!)
It’s impossible to watch with a straight face.
She refused to respond directly to any questions, always diverting to another ranted assertion.
Quite pathetic. JRM the model of a gentleman, despite having to interview an absolute lunatic.
Agree JRM the model of a gentleman. Having to interview? Methinks not – he specifically chose to interview Phoebe knowing she is an absolute lunatic.
On the question of crop yields alone, she should read this.
Incidentally, one of the people involved in Wild Isles was on the radio, he was asked about the Atlantic Salmon decline, he gave a full list of answers, including the overfishing (the main problem) this time, climate change being well down. Yet in the program commentary only pollution and climate change were emphasised.
The scientist bit is not relevant – you need to be informed about the subject and with the internet at your fingertips, there is no excuse for being ignorant. But as we have known since the start, this is NOT about science but religion, power and control.
Mmmm not sure about your assertion that searching on the internet will inform you. There is so much nonsense on the net you have to work hard to find the real gems. I seem to recall research saying people only read stuff that supports their own beliefs. The problem imho is that people generally are not taught to research properly and really question what they are reading. But as you say it’s meant to control us and uses our lack of acumen to that effect.
Glad it’s April fools day when I saw this.
All the diatribe but no idea. Brainwashed not educated.
Cretinacy is a very broad church.
Sorting out LPAs at moment (so my children are not faced with a worse problem when I become even more doolally). In the good old days the Office of the Public Guardian was know as the Masters in Lunacy. Those were better days. Consider the dilemma of Phoebe’s wealthy parents! Schadenfreude is an unattractive emotion but a pleasurable one nonetheless.
I call it ‘droolally.’ When I get close to needing housing in a drool-factory, my wife plans to ship me off the the VA home in Boulder, NV. Its on government land where I also have my designated VA burial site. Its really a prime location: 1) Spitting distance to Hoover Dam; 2) overlooks the massive Mead Substation electrical switchyard; and is adjacent to the Boulder City waste treatment plant. Everything an engineer could want for his eternal rest.
‘Droolally’ is excellent, I used to talk bravely of a bottle of Laphroaig and slipping overboard into the chilly waters of the Swale with the autopilot set to sail back alone up Faversham Creek with a list of work for the boatyard on the cabin table. Timing is all of course and the joke becomes less amusing as time flies. This forum is as good as a good old moan in the pub so at least there’s still that.
Even leaving aside the contents of this young lady’s diatribe, just look at her demeanour. Some might argue that she is frightened and is passionate about setting the world right. But to my eyes she came across as spiteful and aggressive. Not a good look. Her very appearance (hair colour, clothing, facial piercings) posited her firmly in the political tribe associated with undermining Western culture. So, even if (a massive “IF”) one were to try to give credit to her arguments (hardly arguments, more just aggressive assertions), one would need to recognise that she has a wider political agenda of destruction.
I’ve been quite verbose here in stating the obvious! Apologies!
Why do we have to give airtime to these types of nutters when “sectioning” them would be far more appropriate. Is it really acceptable to have this person’s mental illness on such open parade?
“The wind doesn’t always blow, and the sun isn’t always shining.”
“But renewables are nine times cheaper!”
Petitio principii.
Oil is going away soon anyway. Permanent geologic decline.

Last ditch shale plays in Russia…
Legacy oil = biggest funders of the green movement. “Just stop oil” etc, all this is is the government scientists cover for depletion.
Better to not tell the general public about depletion.
Half of people believe the lies. Oil = evil, green energy will save us. (Surplus oil is the only reasons 8 billion of us can exist, green energy is 100% reliant on a surplus supply of oil)
The other half of people reject the lies. But are unaware of depletion. “The government scientists are just trying to control us.”
Like living in a giant global insane asylum. Gonna start getting uglier and uglier each passing year.
Yes her point of view is nuts alright, but look at the even greater nutters who encourage her :-

Computer Science student .! They do not have time for other subjects like History and Geography, Languages. Unfortunately students of other subjects like Law or Political Science are under the same disadvantage but all of these graduates who are often politicians are graduates of the same types of degree . Education at tertiary level is fragmented too much. A general year before specialising at University should be the normal approach to specialised degrees.
We had that at Edinburgh . years ago. Otherwise we have people shouting at each other over a great divide. ( I think C P Snow wrote about it)
Poorly Zeroed is a novel describing a country that rushed into abandoning hydrocarbons too fast. Ms. Plummer and I have different notions on the way fossil fuels impact our civilization.
